RCA

Unread post by Steveo »

Hello Gentlemen / Ladies
I hope everyone is OK and staying safe?
I am hoping to fit a rear view camera to my 2009 C5
My car has RCA fitted in the glove box and I have retro fitted the sat nav screen so I was wondering if I purchased a RCA camera connected to reversing light (for activation) and the RCA cables to the glove box connectors would the screen work as a reverse screen monitor?
Would the RCA have to be enabled using Diagbox
Thank you in anticipation
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve, unfortunately not.

The RCA connectors in the glovebox are for audio /video (depending on options) media - not a reversing camera. The RCA has to be selected as a video-in source from the head unit to operate, so there is no switching. The video signal is cut anyway at very low speeds to prevent distraction of watching a movie say from a connected DVD player whilst driving for example.

The only way you will get this to work is if you fit an independent camera with its own display, much like 'The Ace' fitted on his C5 X7. He bought a unit that has the LCD display built into the rear view mirror. So it acts as a mirror for normal driving, but when hitting reverse, the LCD engages and the reversing lines are displayed and the camera image to aid reversing.

Hi Marc
Dam and blast!
I have the dimming mirror and don't really want to lose it so it looks like screen, camera and wireless rca or just wireless
Once again I thank you
