New acquisition and plans for it (and problem)

Unread post by Bilkob »

So, I am now the proud😳 owner of a late GTI T2 and as long as I don’t give up/run out of funds I’ve got fairly ambitious plans for it....
The car has a really good solid shell, new front wings, nice glass all round and seems mechanically ok, no huge leaks anywhere, etc.....
I’ve now owned enough of these to know what I want to do to turn one into a truly amazing, modernised country hopping cruiser
1 Properly soundproof the shell, door skins, footwells, etc....
2 Fit a modern stand alone A/C and heating system, I’m not going to have the spare wheel under the bonnet and that space and removing the heater tower liberates a huge amount of space for a retro fit unit...
3. Full stainless exhaust system (I already have one on my T1)
4 16ā€ T slot wheels
5 Finally I’d like a bit more oooomph, so, I’m almost decided on going down the route of a completely new engine management system and a hybrid turbo and getting rid of the entire old K jetronic system and associated wiring, etc....
There seem to be varying views on this but there are now lots of retro fit full management systems and I can’t believe it can be impossible to make a simple, understressed 4cylinder engine with a simple turbo installation work. I’m aware that the flywheel pick up may be the sticking point but I’m going to fit a new clutch anyway...
I’d welcome any thoughts, warnings of doom, etc and will try to post pics along the way.

In the meantime, I need to get it running as after it initially worked it’s stopped! I only really need it to run to move it about
I have sparks and good fuel pressure at the rail but it now won’t start. I’ve changed the following
ā€˜Big blue’
Crank sensor’
Any thoughts.
