Heater plug warning light

Post by Baldhead »

I have a 13 plate Nemo diesel with 34000 miles which runs well, the heater plug light goes out after 5 seconds and it starts first time, however the warning light flashes about 18 times, is this normal?

What warning light is flashing - Service Light, EML, Pre-Heater warning.......? What model is this? Better still please post up your VIN and provide a better description of the warning light in question.

VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Model Nemo 660 X HDI
The warning light is the glow plug/diesel pre heat warning. Switching on the ignition the light comes on, after about 5 seconds it goes out, the engine starts first time, then the glow plug warning light flashes about 18 times.

Ok, so you have a NEMO Utility Vehicle Van 1.3 HDI 75 with manual gearbox, 5-speed.

Basically that probably indicates that one or more of the glow plugs are shot. HDi engines don't rely on these for starting generally - only in very cold conditions, but the plugs do play a role in emissions reduction by assisting with the diesel particle filter (which you have on yours by the way) regeneration process . They can be commanded to come on by the engine ECU not only for pre-heating, but for post-heating.

So if you decide at some point to get them changed - it's better to replace the lot in one go.

And make sure to get a good make of glow plugs. Some are very good (people with a lot more experience will advise you on these), while others are somewhat sub-standard.

Good few recommendations for BERU brand, and maybe not NGK.
BERU site should list which ones for the Nemo, if you need to check.
