Thermostat rating Xantia TD

Post by P_C »

Does anyone know what is the thermostat rating for a 1996 1.9TD Xantia. I think my car is running too cool when moving, so I'm going to change the thermostat in case it is broken to see if this helps.
The Haynes manual says a 1996 Xantia should have an 89C, however the motor factor I went to get the new one from said it should be 83C. I suspect the one fitted to my car is an 89. Did citroen ever change the thermostat rating at any time?
The running temps for my car are ~68C when moving and ~88C when in sitting traffic. Any suggestions?

There are 2 thermostat ratings around : a winter and a summer spec.
The summer spec would of course have the lowest rating providing an earlier opening temp for the radiator.
GSF would supply the correct one you need.

I had this problem when I change the thermostat on out ZX last year and was led to believe that all were 83C now - this being a modification. Whether this is true I don't know but the supplier assured me that was the case as did another factor who checked for me while trying to find a gasket and a friendly mechanic also confirmed this.
Certainly on the Zx a thick 'O' ring typr gasket was required - not the thin one supplied.
