Something changed?

Unread post by Paul-R »

I normally have my FCF page set to 'Active topics' and simply refresh with F5 to see if anything new has appeared.

This evening something new has appeared. A box now pops up informing me that "...the web browser needs to resend the information you've previously submitted" and I have to click on Retry to continue.

An extra step I could do without.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

Clear your browser cache. CTRL + F5
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

I get that frequently. I also clear the cache frequently, automatically when I shut a browser down, and I run Bleachbit regularly that dumps all sorts of accumulated rubbish

Your browser thinks that you you have previously started putting information into a form, or perhaps activated one of the Ajax popup on the page. It should sort itself out if you just click the Active topics button at the top of the page.

But the whole point of F5 is to avoid having to do that!

I'm always looking for the easy route...

This is the one I get. It is followed by a line saying that the data has to be re-sent if I have just posted or edited something. Happened just now.
I don't think it is a board problem as it happens elsewhere too. I think it is my broadband connection that is flaky, sometimes seems slow and it drops out several times a day, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for up to 20 minutes.
BT/Openwound can't find a problem.

I did get this weirdness a few days ago:

I accidentally closed the window down and opened up a new one which appears to have sorted the problem. Probably cleared the cache that way.

I should know all this as I used to be the goto guy when friends and family have computer problems. It just shows how one always looks for a problem elsewhere before investigating close to home.

Seconded!
I trashed my desktop computer last week. Fan growling the stopped. Thought it was the processor fan, of which I have many, even water cooled ones. It was the power supply fan of course.
New power supply fitted - zilch. Not even trying to boot, nothing on the monitor, not even waking the monitor up.

Laptop seemed slow so I set to deleting stuff I didn't ever use. Dumped the Bluetooth thing. Another trashed computer :( It took Cinnamon away along with Bluetooth :( Oh dear.
Fortunately I have another laptop, also Mint on a dongle, older version. Installed that then upgraded to the current one in just over half an hour, fortunately able to use the computer while it upgrades too.
Will probably retire the desktop and put the hard drives in caddies to use as externals, possibly plugged in to the router.
