PSA Interface Checker and Lexia Version

Post by Rhothgar »

Hi all,

Nearly there with this BUT support for Windows 7 ended on 14/01/2020 so I'm left wondering why the drivers won't install.

The Lexia is lighting up.

I can't seem to locate the old PSA Interface Checker that was on the original discs (basically because I cannot find any of my kit other than the lexia and two leads...)

Jim kindly sent me updates up to 7.57 and I am wondering if I should have installed drivers are the 7.01/7.02 stage. I don't need it to read 2014 cars. I've read that the application firmware can be incompatible with the DB version but also the Guru "Givemeabreak" states it now installs as part of the installation process. However, the Lexia hasn't been plugged in so unless he means the drivers are installed onto the laptop awaiting Lexia to be plugged in then I'm a little stumped.

Windows Update is of course not working as this was a glitch with Windows back in the day and now support has ended I cannot update it beyond SP1.

I'm loathed to uninstall at this point and reinstall everything and I'm sure plugging it into the OBD socket doesn't assist with any of the installation.

Really need to get this up and running for tomorrow's session on the HDi.

Thanks, as ever.

Roger, some clarification:

The Firmware is automatically installed with each subsequent Diagbox update version where applicable. Some updates use the same firmware.

The versions are on my post here:
viewtopic.php?t=59742

Problems may arise when you downgrade the Diagbox version backwards - and the firmware does not downgrade.

This has nothing to do with the drivers at installation. The actia drivers for the VCI are installed at the initial installation of DB at version 7.
When the VCI is plugged into the USB port (s) the drivers are installed automatically.

You don't need to plug the interface into the car's OBD port to install Diagbox. This is done away from the vehicle.

If you need to update Windows 7 use this link:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... e1e883051e

You need to have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed first.

Follow the instructions to install the appropriate KB article then download the 32 or 64 bit version as per your system. This is the last 'roll-up' version of updates for Win 7 that was never actually released as a service pack 2 - but contains all the last updates available. Note your version will still show Win 7 SP 1 - but the updates will get installed.

Hi Marc

Thanks for confirmation.

I did manage to get it up and running BUT I think I may have damaged the Lexia as it's been sitting by the side of my desk in the office for years. I reckon I may have ran over it with my office chair at some point.

The serial connector is not brilliant and waggling the cable makes it connect sometimes. This is obviously why the light didn't light first time. I've since stripped it down and tried to resolder the serial connector.

I reckon there might be some bridging of the solder on the other side of the through holes as it is not recognising it at all now so maybe a short in the data side of the connector. The green light is working correctly.

I am going to try and desolder completely, clean up and resolder. It's pretty challenging as you can imagine.

I spoke to Jim but he's not got any in stock until next week. How much discount can we get as members? Is it 15%?

Yes 15 % - see procedure:

These are über sensitive, especially the solder joints. Mine gets treated like a Ming vase!

Roger, as per the pics you sent of your board, I've marked here the most obvious components missing:
Roger Board.png
Roger board c.png
This is a revision 'B' unit, and flashing this will make no difference as it is missing the hardware. You won't be able to use it on more modern vehicles and on those with CAN interfaces, you may get little to no communication - it depends on the vehicle and architecture.

The clone sellers offer cheaper kits for older cars and these are obviously at the cheaper end of the market.

Anything under £90 should be properly checked for quality and that it has all the components. Look in descriptions for anything that mentions if won't work well or at all with the Peugeot 308 or Citroen C5 - that can be a good pointer to avoid those completely.

Currently, if you were to get your interface working you would only really be able to run Diagbox V5 realistically on Revision B non-full chip kits.

As for members with kits:

viewtopic.php?t=56452

The above lists members willing to help - there's a link to a google map at the end that will show you (pinned) where they are. Contact any near you with a Private Message, but be aware that not all are as regular on the forum, so may take a while to get back to you.

Cheers Marc. Much appreciated.

If I cannot get the car started tomorrow, I think I'll be buying a unit from Jim next week. I'm stunned that my unit does not look like one of his. I could have sworn I bought it from him.
