Loud Popping Sound While Reversing

Unread post by Zulhilmi »

Hi, I own a 2018 DS5. I jut bought it about 4 weeks ago and I noticed there is a very loud popping sound when I release the parking brake, slowly moving and turning the wheel. This happens many times, usually when the car is moving slow and while maneuvering through tight corners especially during reverse.

I'm really confused as to what makes the sound and where does it comes from. Is it the suspensions? the lower arms? bushings? the brakes?

Does this happen mainly when turning the wheel from lock to lock?

I had a problem where my track rod gaiters had turned oval (not round) and caught on the subframe as I turned the wheel.

It does happen more often when I turn the wheel from lock to lock but it also pops about half turn.

Could this be a broken coil spring perhaps?

I would double check the steering boot is nice and round and not catching on anything when being turned from lock to lock.

Here's what a good one should look like:

My one looked like an oval and would give an audible 'pop' as it deformed when hitting the subframe etc.

I've checked the coil spring and everything was fine, also it is a new car so it couldn't have been the coil spring

Like I said, it's a new car but I will check the rod just in case. Also the car was in the showroom at DS and it hasn't move for quite a long time until the day I bought it. How many miles you got clocked on your C5?

If this is a 2018 model - take it back to DS - it will be under warranty.

If it's got really wide tyres they might be scrubbing on full lock - there was a problem with a Merc (GLC?) that did this.

Yeah I will, Thanks btw. Also the wide tyres is not the problem because the tyres are not very wide and I checked the tyres doesn't come in contact with anything.
The fact that you can still hear the sound even you are standing about 5 meters away from the car.
I got a BMW F30 and it also makes that sound but very rarely I must say and the sound is very subtle that you can only hear it if you really listen to it while this is just like taking a metal wrench and hitting a metal pole with it.
