Xsara picasso gearbox

Hi guys apologies if this has already been covered but I'm a newbie to this,
I have a 1.6 8v Manual picasso 53 reg, that I'm of the understanding has developed a gearbox fault, Sunday evening whilst driving I changed from 2nd to 3rd gear which unusually crunched quite badly, I then noticed a loud scraping type noise coming from gearbox that is worse in 2nd and 3rd gears, also have had a rattle from gearbox in neutral with clutch pedal released which suddenly seems to have gotten much worse, I have been advised that it's almost certainly the gearbox, but just wondering if any one knows the gearbox code for these as I can not find one on the gearbox, any suggestions greatly recieved has car is too good to just get rid of,

Hi, and to the Forum.

If you were to post up the VIN here (which will, for security reasons, be obscured so only Forum staff can read it) a Moderator can then look her up on the Citroen systems, and let you know what she had (including the gearbox) when she rolled out of the factory.
