Orange Engine Light (Xantia)

Does amyone no what that orange light on the left of the dash means on the xantia, mine when it feels like comes on for a few seconds then goes off again

Thats your oil level light, it can mean that your engine needs more oil.

I've had this one when I first got the Xantia, parked on an incline with n/s rear being most elivated. Rolling onto level ground it went out. Checked oil level - OK. Parked it back in same spot - light back on.

The dipstick on Citroen diesel engines is in the centre of the car which of course is at one end of the engine. Therefore parking the car at an angle (as for example at a kerb) will cause the oil to run away (or towards) the dipstick. To avoid any danger of overfilling (which can cause problems) you should check the oil with the car on the level. Generally if you keep the oil on the full mark the warning light won't come on whichever side of the road you park but some of these lights are a bit sensitive as we've found out with our ZX 1.9D.

Are we definitely talking about the oil level light here?
My Xantia has both an orange oil light and an orange engine management system light - it could be the latter?

Nick's right. My Xantia has an orange engine management light at the left of the dash, and a low oil level indicator on the right. The oil level indicators occasionally flash for no good reason in my experience. Restarting the engine has always stopped it - of course a check of oil level isn't a bad idea.....
The engine management light has the standard symbol for those things and the oil light a funny tapered symbol.
Try and get an owner's manual.

My ZX book describes both lights as having an orange background and shows the symbol for the oil light as an inverted 'J' and the engine management one as a white cloud with what looks an orange 'transistor' symbol in the centre

Yeah Nick was right it is the engine managment light that occasionally comes on for no apparant reason. Is this a bad thing if it does?
