Citroen C5 2008 x7 2.0HDI - Engine Stops. Multiple Faulty Messages When Driving and Idle.

Post by muvic »

Hi ALL !

I drive Citroen C5 2008 x7 2.0HDI since March 2019.
But from September, periodically, I meet some problems when I drive the car or even when it idle. It engine cuts off, so I use car inertia to get to safe place, stop and start the engine again. If I start the engine immediately after off, engine start well but when I switch gearbox to D it is blocked in D3 position. So I should switch of the engine, wait for 1-2 minutes after that, turn on the engine and all messages disappearing and bearbox works well.
Messages what appear when the problem pops up:

Engine Oil Pressure Low
Faulty GearBox
ESP Faulty
Automatic Parking Brake Faulty

To exclude the bear box problem I test my car at Midlands Transmissions - so is NOT the GearBox. They told me that is definitely something electrical..

What I observed is when I drive, this Engine-Stop happens when outside is very wet or raining.. It give me some ideas of causes but I would like to ask your opinion in this context.. :)

Thank you in advance for all your advices!

No good taking it to a gearbox specialist at this stage. It needs diagnosing!

You need to take it to a mechanic with Diagbox diagnostics to get the fault codes read first of all and post them up here.

A problem with the ESP system will affect the Electronic Parking Brake, as the ESP ECU controls the EPB.

The engine oil warning is self-explanatory - put the car on level ground and check your engine oil.

this plagued mine for months! (and others I understand) :)
very much a 'modern car' problem it seems
caused me much anxiety!

Gearbox warnings, and car would only select 3 or R, with a hell of a shunt.
ESP, brake warnings, god knows what other warnings would appear within a second of each other, it was like Christmas day every time, almost comical
always at idle, or slow speeds.

fixed with a new battery!

Can add this information: Got these error codes when diagnosing at my local Peugeot/Citroën workshop; p0215 p1166 p0337 p1671 p0245 p1164 p1694.

As mention i have now changed battery. Guess I have to drive some weeks to be sure that the problem is fixed.
The workshop (who is new ti Citroën, but has always been a Peugeot dealer) suggested me to change the fuse box assembly behind the battery as that was a common fault on Peugeot 508.

Thanks
