Oil leak from where?

Post by rezonen »

Today i saw my car is leaking oil, but can't see from where. It's leaking somewhere beneath the injectors, seems to be more oil towards the EGR piping. Any ideas? I'll attatch 3 of my pictures.

NOT MY PICTURE
It's oil below this intake piece that i highlighted in red in the picture i found online.

Id give it a good clean with degreaser and steam then it should be easy to spot the leak

That would work you dont need very high pressure jut make sure it cant get into the intake system. Spray on the degreaser leave it 5 minutes then work it with the wife's toothbrush. when its clean a short drive of say 15 minutes should show you where the leak is

Try some hot water with bio clothes washing liquid added. Cuts through oil/grease quickly and cleanly.

Not heard of that before Chris, but makes sense. On that note shampoo should work as well.
How much washing liquid do you add? I presume it just rinses off with a hose?

The enzymes in bio washing liquid are activated when water is added, and dissolve oil/grease etc.
It is also low/non-foaming (for automatic washing machines).
Add about an eggcupful to a litre or two of water. Sorry about the mixed units.
Unlike petrol and solvents, it will not damage rubber engine parts.

It may be beneficial to wait a while with it - I one read that to clean vinyl LPs that a solution of bio washing powder should be stood for 24 hours before submerging the LPs into it to allow the enzymes to properly develop.
That was over forty years ago though so a pinch of salt may be required too.

A pinch of salt in the washing powder as well?

Once you have cleaned and dried the engine bay, try drawing horizontal lines on things using chalk. An oil leak will then be easier to track down.
