Hi there,
Forgive me if this is in the wrong area. But l can not find where it says new posts.
My Citroen Xsara works perfectly, but one thing l have noticed , there is a buzzing noise that comes and goes, sometimes there and other times not there. In the engine compartment , where you have the plus and minus are sitting , which is close to the fuse box. I have a buzzing noise it seems to be a bit further down from that plus and minus, does not seem to be coming from the fuse box. You can even hear it easily from the driver's side wheel arch. Mine is lefthand drive by the way. So the left side. L am worried it is something going to fail. But car seems perfectly fine.
Appreciate any ideas or if someone knows what it is would be great. Regards Kevin

Simple: Select the appropriate Forum for your post, (Citroen, Peugeot etc.). If you cannot already find a topic that covers your query, from the top left of the screen, select 'NEW TOPIC', as I have highlighted in yellow below:
Click Image to Zoom Buzzing noises are not necessarily anything to be concerned about. This may simply be electrovalves resetting or re positioning themselves. Is this when the vehicle is switched off or when running?
The best thing you can do is take a video with your phone and upload it to YouTube, then the you can use the full post editor here to link to the video. The we may get a better idea of what it might be.

Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

By the way this is when the car is running, sometimes needs to be well warmed up , sometimes just when started from cold, but mainly after a drive and then notice it. NO NOISE, WHEN NOT RUNNING!

Thanks , Had to find Citroen to see the button New posts. NOt very obvious though. By the way noise is when the car is running only. Have noticed it from a cold start , but mainly after a run and engine is warmed up most of the time.

Just solenoid that regulates fumes from the fuel tank. Can't remember exactly, but it's hidden behind the front plastic, near the radiator.
Or, bad motor if you have adjustable headlights. There's also an abs motor around there somewhere, but that's about it in that area.

On the AL4 box its completely normal to hear a buzzing noise from the valve block in the gearbox, It can be very noticeable from outside the car & can sound like someone getting a tattoo done.

Thanks, Activa TCT, and wheeler Two different answers, would you both care to give your opinion against each other's reply.
Does it seem there is nothing to worry about, completely normal then? My guessing one of you is right but l don't know who is.
Or if there is someone else to give me their opinion , if you agree with one of the replies or not. Much thanks anyway.

The noise you get from the charcoal canister electrovalves is more of a tick tick tick noise.
The noise from the gearbox valve block is more like a high pitched buzzing that sounds to me like getting a tattoo done.

Lol, I'd never thought of it like that. I knew I recognised the sound. Ours does the same.wheeler wrote: 19 Dec 2019, 14:05 The noise from the gearbox valve block is more like a high pitched buzzing that sounds to me like getting a tattoo done.

Thanks again to everyone. It definitely is the tattoo buzzing sound. So all is normal then. Just still wondering really why it only sounds now and again, would it be that the engine seems to have to warm up and have a run. Also if the noise is coming from the gearbox valve block means absolutely nothing to me. Would one care to explain in layman's terms?
