2012 Peugeot Partner incab smell fumes

Post by nov »

Hi

i have a 2012 1.6 diesel Peugeot partner that has developed a bad fumes smell in cab with or with out heaters on . i checked injectors and one was sooted/black around base of injector so i removed and replaced the copper washer.
however this fumes like smell is still present in the cab with or with out heaters on . its not a very nice smell and cant drive it anymore its that bad. the smell is very much like whats coming out tail pipe but i could be wrong. even driving with the windows down the smell it still very strong anyone know what next i should check or what could be wrong ?

thanks

I had the same problem with my C5 when I first bought it. The smell was of hot/burnt engine oil and the actual smell obviously depends on what oil you are using. I also had an obviously leaking injector which was covered in shiny black brittle burnt oil deposit. I cleaned all that off and found the injector was not tightened properly. I tightened it and on impulse checked the others to find two out of the three were also not fully tightened. I tightened those and after an hour's driving the smell had gone and has never returned. I put that hour down to residual fumes in the system clearing. Good luck! :)

Hi well i did change the engine oil fuel filter oil filter air filter not long after i got the van possible they sold me the wrong oil or something ? i do remember when buying the engine oil form eurocarparts there was some confusion whether it had dpf or not ?
when you say injector was not tight do you mean the collar that locks / slides into the injector with the Torx bolt or the actual injector its self ?
i did check the other collars torx bolts and got a slight turn on them while refitting the bad one, they did seem tight and did not want to over tighten to much.

but i do notice after starting the engine i can smell the smell it incab after like a minute that's without heaters on at all.

ok so after i changed the engine oil i started to get the smell. could it possible be the wrong engine oil ive been sold buy eurocarparts.
the oil they sold me was

triple QX 5w-30 c2 synplus fully synthetic low saps . i cannot see on the oil can or there site if its for dpf or not , as some oil states that if its for with or without dpf.

EDIT

i just phoned eurocarparts and the oil they sold me was for without dpf so they say

It won't be the oil - and that oil is OK for a DPF anyway (see the low SAPS bit). Exhaust fumes can only be injector, leak around the turbo or EGR valve. A good sniff around under the bonnet should point you in the direction. There is a bit of a black mark on the turbo housing, that could be a leak from the turbo joint?

now am confused cause euro say the oil is not for dpf and i need c3 oil not c2 . i will check that black mark on the turbo thanks mate

i phoned a Peugeot dealer and now they tell me i should use 0w-30 oil :?

so my van does have dpf and Particulate filter fluid tank right hand side of fuel tank. ages ago i did get engine fault warning on dash and it has been in limp mode a couple of times . apart from that and the smell it runs ok ...

i just went and started the van first time in days and noticed small puffs of smoke where the arrow is pointing in the picture. its a bit windy out side so i was only seeing the smoke sometimes , and there is a bit of a smell around this area. however now then van has been running 10 min i cannot see smoke from this bit now the smell is there a but the smoke was more prominent when i first started it.

Looks like you need to get the heat shield off and have a look. I seem to recall that someone on here had trouble with a DPF that split....

Extracts from the handbook for my 2013 3008 on oil...
oil1.jpg
oil2.jpg
You can see that C2 is recommended top up spec (C2 is actually better than C3), and 0W-30 is only implicated when used in very cold conditions - although the tag line under the recommended oils table says that the preference is for 0W30 oil for fuel consupmtion, but then it's not authorised for the larger diesel engines!!
