2016 C5 Tourer Auto Box

Post by milpol1 »

Good day,

Have 2016 C5 tourer with 23535 genuine miles on the clock, it’s a proper automatic, bought it in April from Citroen main dealer here in Plymouth. Anyway got in this morning and put foot on brake to take gearbox from Park to Drive when heard clicking noise, this was whilst in park with engine on and engine off although all light were on, on dashboard.

Anyway not heard this befor3 so took to Citroen, mechanic said it was normal and all Citroen’s do it, well hang on says I if it was normal it would of happened from the day I bought it, and this is the first time I’ve heard, receptionist then said it’s to with brake pedal, yes receptionist lol, anyway just wondering if anybody else came across this clicking.

O by the way this is my 5th Citroen in 13 years and have had automatics before so I know it’s not the norm. Sorry for long post, any ideas?

Under warranty and going in on Friday, just don’t wanna be fobbed off. When I go to move from park to drive there is like something touching the gearstick at the same time as the click, which i believe is near the solenoid.
Have np problems when its in gear just move from Park

Thanks in advance

It's probably the shift lock mechanism / relay playing up.

It sounds like normal behaviour. The shift lock has been fitted to all Citroens with computer controlled transmissions (about 1997 or 1998). Some are louder than others, it is possible that yours had some lubricant that was damping the click, and this has now dissipated.

I know you haven't mentioned that you cannot move the selector from Park at present, but the causes of malfunction can arise from the following elements:
  • The battery voltage
  • The "shift lock"
  • The selector lever position switch
  • The automatic gearbox ECU
  • The wiring harness
If it does get stuck in the future, this is what you need to do to unlock it manually:
Shift A.PNG
Shift.PNG
Unclip and move aside the bezel (1).Unlock the "shift lock" with the aid of a screwdriver

Press on (2) (In the direction of the arrow ).
Move the selector lever to disengage it from the "P" position.
