Coolant for my car
Hi I need to check before I just add and can't seam to find the answer in my handbook, my coolant needs to ping up as I have never done it before can I use any coolant to top up or does it have to be a certain one. Thanks it looks to be a pink colour in there at the moment. My car is a citroen grand c4 2010.

Re: Coolant for my car
Si7,
Your going to have fun find the coolant. I suspect it is G33 Glysantin which is in my C5 x7 2010. But this is no longer available even from Citroen dealers.
They have changed the coolant they use. It is a longlife OATS coolant in blue colour. 5 litres ready to use @ £22.
The closest equivalent is G30 which you can easily get online. I will be changing my coolant soon, will be flushing old coolant out and filling with G30 approximately 11litres @ 50/50 mix.
It is not clear even on the servicecitroen site which antifreese is used.
I hope this helps
Kenny

Please post up your VIN (unless you have already done so), so that a Moderator can look it up and get the right coolant for you. The VIN will, for security reasons, be obscured so only Forum staff can read it.

Re: Coolant for my car
Hi kenny, no, as the procedure for changing the coolant is generally a drain, refill and bleed operation and is filled up as per the procedure.. For any other operation that may involve a bit of coolant loss, the general rule Is to replace the amount that comes out.

Re: Coolant for my car
Coolant types and makes should not be mixed.
Colour is no indication of the type of coolant in use, as there are no international standards for this.
If the make and type of coolant is unknown, the system should be completely drained (flush with distilled/de-ionised if necessary) and refilled with a fresh mix. A little bit of dilution with residual de-ionised water will not matter. Do not use tap-water.
Keep a note of what is in there. Ideally, put a label in the engine bay.
Use the same mix for all subsequent topping up.
Standard glycol type is quite adequate, but should be renewed every 2 years.
"Long life" brands will have a longer replacement requirement; see instructions.
___________
Never mix long-life OAT type with a standard glycol type.
Random mixing of types can result in unwanted effects, including crystallisation, sediment, or the formation of goo. Best not to do this.

Re: Coolant for my car
If the OP just needs to top up, and if it's only a relatively small amount, then plain de-ionised water willl do for now..... though as it's a 2010 car, it'll be coming up for a coolant change soon anyway.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner
Re: Coolant for my car
That's great thanks.
