Headlight not working - 1 side

Unread post by hu8ix »

Hi.

I just got a 1994 S1 with what I thought was a blown dipped light bulb on the driver's side - all is well with the passenger side and other lights (incl. indicator and dims)

I changed the bulb, tried to re connect the wires, and even reconnected the main wiring loom after blowing some air thru- connector but to no avail

Any tips will be appreciated :)

Is this your Xantia? I think that there may b a separate fuse for each headlight. Is high beam OK?

If its not a fuse it will probably be a wiring fault and by far the easiest way to resolve that would be to fit a relay connected to the 12v supply and energised by the voltage of the lamp that does work, I had to do this on an Peugeot 406. But thoroughly check all the fuses first.

And don't just look to see if a fuse is blown; make sure the areas of contact (on the fuse AND the holder) are clean. I had an issue in the past with a rear wiper working intermittently (until it finally stopped). I looked at the relevant fuse, and while the wire looked good the contacts looked dirty. I used some contact cleaner, and then plugged/unplugged the fuse several times. After that the rear wiper worked properly.

AND, if it is a fuse, that's not likely to be the cause - but the effect.

Excuse the delay in replying. I crashed the car the same day I posted this. Brakes didn't work. Probably an LHM airlock.

Ouch! I hope you are OK, and the car is repairable?
