speedocable xantia

can anyone tell me or offer advice on how to remove the upper cable on my xantia 1.9td 94 vsx haynes manual say's a sharp tug but it will not budge had speedo out and inner came out now stuck even rang a local citroen independant he quoted 9 hrs labour about £250 is it gold plated,on the whole though its a great car until it goes wrong and then its a pig

Phew, Keith, was quite out of puff after reading that [;)]
Is it like a BX, where the attachment to the rear of the speedo is a plastic dingus that has two prongs that lock in a groove on the speedo shaft boss? If so, it just needs to be squeezed to pull off.

Sharp tug only really works if cables been off once or twice before, Try grabbing as close to speedo as possible and pushing pulling to the left or right hard then tugging this bends the plastic a bit, you do need to be a bit violent but you shouldn't do any damage, This worked on a bx

thanks i'me going to commence saturday the new cable has a rubber ball on it about 25 mm dia apparently to locate in a socket weird or what
