Xsara Picasso Radio channel changing

Post by handyman »

The problem is on a 54 Xsara Picasso Desire, where the radio has started changing channels under its own steam. 'Kin annoying when I am listening to a programme.

Any useful pointers or advice? Thanks.

I can think of 3 possibilities:

1) If it is RDS capable and the reception is bad (aerial or aerial base corrosion) then it can cause the RDS to constantly look for the strongest source if it keeps losing signal.
2) Have you accidentally enabled the PTY function? If so, that will keep changing channel to provide you with the selected programme type (News, Sport, etc.)
3) The radio tuner is faulty.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It is a RDS capable radio so I'll look into the aerial & possible corrosion.

What is the PTY function and how is it switched on or off, presumably on the radio face.

I suppose the last point means the radio is junk & not repairable without funds spent on it. I do have another radio from the previous Xsara Picasso with the correct code for it.

The stock radios are VIN coded - so if replacing with a like for like model, you will need it VIN coding to the current Picasso - there are no radio codes to enter. It will just keep beeping all the time or fail to work.

If you pop your VIN up I'll check out the radio you have and determine if it has PTY functionality.
