What does the PCB electrics board/chip in a key do?
I mean a NON remote key, they have both transponder and an electronics board. As far as I know the transponder works on it's own and is powered by the RF signal from the cars transponder. So again what exactly does this PCB do?

Not come across this - other than the transponder, but I would suspect if they make a remote version the fob is common to both, I assume it doesn't have a battery in it?

Ah you right i think I must have been thinking about the circuit board in the remote key. Doh.

There's no pcb in a non-remote key.
Just a tiny rice-grain chip that responds to car's immobilizer coil. About the same thing as rfid.
Chip has only a coil and requires no batteries.
