ZX Climate control backlight

Unread post by jonathan_hall77 »

Hi

I am trying to change the back lights on the climate control on my ZX. I have removed the cigarette ash try and removed 2 screws from the top and 2 screws from the back of this compartment. I have also removed the radio to get access from the top, I can't find ant more screws that I can easily remove.

Would anyone have any ideas what I need to do next?

One of the images I have attached is what my camera can see looking downwards where the radio was....

Thanks
Jonathan

That look like a bulb holder (the black module that turns and lifts out - but I can't be sure - you need to watch out as these have mechanical cables for the air mixing and distribution. Many of these tale the small push in 1.2 V bulbs - but I can't tell you on these.

Pop your VIN up and I'll be able to identify the unit you have, as there are 3 types.

Ok, so goven the year, your system could be one of 2 variants. A BEHR unit (without Air Inlet Flap) or a Valeo unit (with Air Inlet Flap). I think you may have the Valeo as you have the recycling air switch on the dial, so I'll go with that one.

Now if it is the Valeo one, looking at the part inside, I have highlighted the bulbs. The 2 (left and bottom) look like the standard 1.2v push in bulbs, but the one on the right may be the same, but is inserted into a twist holder.

The construction of that one is obviously different to the one in the original picture.
Try pulling off the knobs and see if there are any screws or clips behind.

There are some differences on the dial patterns for some, as they were used on other vehicles, but even parts do not show the exact same fascia panel markings as the OP’s picture (missing the recycling graphic on the left dial), but the point is they should still have the same 1.2v capsule bulbs that were in use for the time in many vehicles

I was able to get a few more pictures at the back of the unit and it's definitely the VALEO.

The unit is hidden behind a surround that goes from the heater vents above the radio to below the cigarette ash tray, I need to remove this to get access to the controller. I have gently tried to pull this and it's only flexing the plastic. Are the air vents glued in, they don't want to budge?

Any idea's how I remove this surround as there are no more obvious screws to remove...

Thanks

I've done this, but I can't remember how!! I think you have to pop out the air vents (screwdriver down the side) then there are a couple of screws in there. The Haynes for the ZX will tell you how, but I don't think I've got mine anymore...

Popping the air vents seemed to have worked

Are these the correct lamps?

Unfortunately they don't work if they are....

Is there anything else that could be the problem, or should I take the chance and try the scrap yard for a replacement unit?

Thanks!

You'd need to get the unit out, disassemble, and identify the bulbs really.
