Help and tools

Unread post by Jon »

I've had an idea for a new section of the Forum. Just running it past everyone first.
"Help and Tools" is my provisional title for it. [8)]
For example, if you felt that you could assist other Forum menbers you could list what, um, help you could give, and what tools you could have or lend within a reasonable distance.
So, mine would be something like
Location: Swindon, Wilts
Tools available: Square sump plug tool, Purflux oil filter tools, crank pulley puller, Sphere removal tool, general hand tools. 2cv special tools (kingpins, suspension height)
Other details:Beer and sympathy. Garage.
MiscI keep common oil filters, wipers, and some diesel filters in stock and have access to parts from where I work.Mechanical aptitude. Nil.
I use the above as a sort of rough example.Does anyone think its a good plan?[?]

Citroen samaritans sort of thing? Sounds like a good idea to me! Lets just hope that someone doesn't take the p!ss and ruin it for genuine forum chatters!
Something tells me some of us might want to move closer to AndersDK...
Location: Rugeley, Staffordshire
Tools: General stuff, nothing specific apart from a big chain wrench!
Other Stuff: Full kettle, sympathy!
Spares Stocks: Gaffer tape and a few bits of hose!

I think its a great idea. I may not be of much practicle use but will tow people locally.. I'm just off the M60 ring road east of Manchester.. and will gladly do all I can to help in other ways. Coffee, beer, phone, etc etc.. in case of a local breakdown. :-)

Location: Gosport, Hampshire
Tools: Pleiades sphere removal tool, nothing else quite so grand or useful. Various 24mm sockets/spanners for rear arms.
Other Stuff: Completely non-ideal location at present (e.g. lack of off-road parking, garage, storage). Kettle only reached after trip through no-shoe zone (see "non-ideal location...")
Spares Stocks: Various secondhand BX bits and pieces, most stored about 35 miles away at the moment. Plenty of trim screws, though!

An excellent idea! The Finnish 2CV Club have been doing it for years - they publish a world-wide booklet (Apua-Help) that lists people by region/country, with what languages they speak, if they can tow, if they know of or have spares, knowledge of local accomodation.
FWIW - I am in West Yorkshire, 2.5 miles from M62 J26. I have plenty of tools, and repair all my own cars.
Red wine, sometimes beer, coffee/tea [;)]
Speak English, French, learning ebayese and forum-ese
So, Jon, why did Mrs W get rid of the deux chevaux?

Jon,
Looks like a good idea - think you'd need to create threads for areas of the country though, otherwise we'd spend hours looking for someone locally, when we could(!) be fixing the car....
Personally:
Location: Lanark, Scotland
Tools: Home made square sump plug (the Halfords one that fits all cars EXCEPT Citroens till you've spent 2 hours filing it down....) Hand tools - although no big sockets or ball joint splitters - yet!, lots of big hammers[8D], ramps, axle stands, MIG welder (mate in Glasgow with Oxy-acetlyene set, and a garage that's NOT full of Visa and Velocette)
I've got a garage but that's full of Visa and Velocette
I've got an endless kettle
Oh, and a SUPERB curry house.....

Location: Liverpool/Wirral
Tools available: Most BX tools, enough to do an engine change and rebuild of the car. NO Sphere tool. Have a lot of power tools, including impact airgun (gift from god)! Multiple chain hoists and full set of FORD spanners (dont even ask!)
Other details:Experience with BX, Xantia, X05 pugs, 306, fiesta's and escorts. Student, hence lots of free time to come and rescue or work for beer/cash.
Misc: Mostly only have diesel parts in stock (air/oil filters). Also keep large amount of liquid in stock (LHM, oil, petrol, antifreeze, screen wash). Many random BX parts. There's quite a good stock of parts at my local scrap yard (which keeps BX's in for me :D )
Also have access to land rover defender (tow vehicle), static tow bars and full engineering workshop on pre warning!
Am happy to attend call outs - Will have direct line number shortly.
