Low oil pressure warning light Citroen ZX

After fitting a new starter motor and having a wipe around some old mucky oil patches I checked everything was back on and bolted up I turn the ignition on to be greeted with the orange low pressure warning light it flashes 40 times and that's it .

I've changed the oil and filter today 7/10/19 and ..... its still flashing 40 flashes then stops.

Would it be worth buying a new oil pressure sensor switch ?

Is it located on the front of the engine ?

Single green wire ?

Is there a test ? Like unplugging the sensor to see if the light continues flashing ?

It don't flash when driving ...

So I'll leave this topic up for help on this little issue ..


Updates .... If anyone remembers my rev counter ... Its working fine .... hope it stays like it hahahahah

I think that the oil light flashing indicates low oil level rather than low pressure. The level sensors are said to be fairly unreliable

Second that. Check the dipstick.

Hi folks , level was half way I've just checked after letting it alone over night , topped up another half a litre !!! Stupid me indeed but it still needs a drop more which I'm going to purchase , I'm using my other car little Geoff.. That's another story ... Once I've topped to what it needs I'll be back ...

That is an oil pressure switch. The level sensor looks more like: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-Xant ... SwufFcbGFu but you need to check which part number is applicable to your engine.

Thanks for that , I take it these parts have a colour code ... The tops of them.... ? If mines green then its the same...
Easy way to get to this as the book says from underneath ? Maybe take the air intakes all off and reach down from above.

Well....... The issue has stopped !!!!

Used the car today and all was normal

Also saw a red zx while on the road ! Nice surprise too

As correcting the oil level seems to have made the warning light go away, it might be worth checking that the dipstick is all in one piece (and the correct one!). Not unknown for bits to drop off PSA dipsticks, both ends. I'm sure someone else would measure theirs for comparison.

All seems good with the dip stick BUT the bloody lights doing the flashes again only at start up , driving is normal .

Have purchased the front sensor near the filter (oil) just waiting for a dry spell now.

Seems all ok since my last visit here.

Now i need to source an interior courtesy light needle in a haystack!
