Bouncy XM

Post by teuski »

I bought a XM project last week. It's a '90 2.0i with Hydractive 1. The rear end felt like a bouncy castle. Turns out those brand new rear suspension spheres were actually rear middle spheres. Now wonder it was like that...
I had only some old Xantia front spheres available but even with those it's much better :) The spheres are not the first concern, there are some rust holes to fix before thinking about spheres...

A classic demo of those wrong and undamped spheres, but the good news is that you spotted the problem.
Hopefully the rust can be sorted. Do post some photos as the work goes on.

I would have thought you would have has a very soft ride from the rear rather than 'bouncy'. I tried a couple of accumulator spheres which are similar on one side on my XM and the ride was superb, would like to have fitted them all round but think it would have leaned a bit round corners but ridden like a DS19 - lovely. 8-)

Well the soft ride isn't that comfortable nor safe when it slams to the top on the rebound
