Struggling to insure a C4 Grand Picasso

Post by ldare2000 »

Hi
I picked up a 2009 C4 Grand Picasso VTR+ a few days for £1600.....and wish I hadn't lol, discovered a few issues...

Appart from the mechanical and electrical issues I am struggling to insure, has anyone else had difficulty? I am 39 with 10+ years NCB. My current insurance company Zenith won't insure it, Direct Line won't and so Ive used Confused. com and they are quoting me well over £400 which is bizarre as its working out much more to insure than when I had a Mercedes R320 which seems bizarre....

I live in Swansea and purchased the car from Manchester..... I would have taken it back by now if closer.

Kind Regards
Louis

Are you sure it hasn't been in an accident or has been damaged? If it is recorded on the insurers' databases as a certain category, that may be the reason they are not insuring it.....

Category A
Cars that are classified as Category A writes-offs should be crushed completely. They are so badly damaged that even salvageable parts must be destroyed.

Category B
Cars in Category B have suffered extensive damage and should never be used again on the road, although some parts can be salvaged.

Category C
Category C vehicles are often written-off due to floods or fire damage. These cat c cars are repairable, however they are deemed to have been written-off because the cost of the parts, labour and extra services would significantly exceed the value of the vehicle.

Category D
Category D vehicles are repairable, and can legally be driven again.

As with Category C cars, however, the cost of conducting repairs has been judged too high to make it worth the insurer’s while. This may be due to the time it will take to source the parts, as well as the work required.

HPI has nothing recorded mate. Ive gone 3rd party now, probably first time in 20 years but saved me £150 and its cost me £1600 so probably wouldn't claim om Fully Comp if ai bumped it as I think the excess was £450

The high cost is primarily down to the seating capacity. Just about all cars designed with more than 5 seats command a higher premium.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

It must be that, but I've have a 6 seater Benz R320 and 7 seater Benz 270 ML both cheaper to insure, faster and higher value.

Is it your only car?

If you have more than one your second one won't get the no claims discount, as I found out when I tried to insure the 1.0i Corsa to use while I repaired the C5 and they wanted £550.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Yes my only car, had all sorts of cars, 4.0 v8 Jaguar XK8, Mercedes R320, Mercedes 270 ML, Mini Cooper and this Picasso is the most expensive car I have ever insured. Ended up going 3rd party fire and theft which is something I haven't done since insuring a Vauxhall Nova SR back in 1998...

These are the average insurance fees from Compare the Market. So still cheaper than a C1! :-D

Citroen C1: average premium £557.11 per year
Citroen C2: average premium £679.45 per year
Citroen C3: average premium £506.39 per year
Citroen DS3: average premium £555.69 per year
Citroen Xsara Picasso: average premium £428.21 per year
Citroen C4 Picasso: average premium £491.37 per year
Citroen Grand C4 Picasso: average premium £491.34 per year
**Average price amount based on the top five quotes from Compare the Market data from 1 March 2019 to 1 June 2019. The average is based on all variations of the vehicle model and uses risk data from people with different age ranges, addresses and driving histories. You may find a cheaper or more expensive quote based on your circumstances.

£285 3rd Party Fire and theft (with 6 points) must actually be a good deal then 😂

I was paying £285 with 6 points for fully comp on a 7 seater Merc a year ago......Oddly 6 Points for using a mobile (stationary at roadworks) lowers your insurance..... wouldn't recommend it tho! I think Insurance company must think I am less likely to do it again than someone who hasn't been caught yet
