Where have all the xantia posts gone?

Been a while I know, but seems like I've been asleep for 10 years, bit like Rip Van Winkle. There's nothing! Tell me they haven't all been scrapped cos I've got four on my drive need fixing up 😁

Sorry, but they have (nearly) all been scrapped....

There are very few being driven on a daily basis now, (mine would, but I prefer driving the XM, which is even rarer...).

I hope that some of yours are worth fixing.

Agree with the last two posts. The same here in southern Spain: a few years ago there were plenty to be seen on the roads, but now we see maybe one or two a week, if that.

Many were bought as a not-too-expensive family car, riding on the success of earlier Citroens (notably BX, ZX and C15), but then owners woke up to the fact that these hydropneumatic cars, whether Hydractive or not, actually need looking after, and not just driving 'til they drop, which can be the southern Spanish way. So, lumpy rides and speared bonnets abounded, with the scrap yards immediately crushing them, as there was little demand for recovered parts.

XM and Xantia now both in tiny tiny numbers here. Those that remain are usually well cared-for. In the case of XM here, it would have been purchased new as a substantial investment, and (generally speaking) cherished. Neither car thrives as an object of neglect. BX somehow managed to survive abuse, for some reason (helped here by the fact that nothing rusts, and strut-top failure was rare and not fatal), and they died out very slowly. Ancient ones now literally creak around, in company with many C15s, as the worn-out rear arm bearings protest at every undulation.

My own feeling is that few owners ever understood Xantia, as it presented as just a very nicely designed range of mid-sized family cars, with no obviously visible Citroen quirkiness. Under the skin, though, it was indeed something quite different.

So sad. I've just taken an overall look at the forum and it seems to be a shadow if what it used to be all round. What has happened to this once great resource?

The character of the forum has changed a little, but the number of active users and the number of posts has not changed dramatically in the last 10 years.

The problem is with the lack of interest in the Xantia (and ZX and Xsara).

Time moves on. The C5 is the new Xantia.

When I first started here a post about the C5 was a rarity. Now I suspect that the C5 (in all its variations) is the most posted about model.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

There's plenty of resources here (if not more then ever before) - but hydraulic Citroens have had their day with the end of production of the C5 X7, more throw away parts and components and the inevitability of older generation cars failing stricter MOTs and being scrapped.

Members also change to other marques (and come back) - but a lot of the 'uniqueness' of PSA brands has now vastly diminished for the sake of competitiveness and sales.

Yep still got mine ( well only had it for a year ) and it just passed its MOT with no advisories :)
Trouble is mine is 20 years old, 10 years ago they were quite a few about and were seen as good 2nd or 3rd hand cars, not many people are looking at buying a 15+ year old car unless they are enthusiasts or gluttons for punishment :lol:

Well I have just posted my Xantia HDI estate on the “for sale" forum. It has been the best car I have owned in every respect, and I just hope someone else will be able to enjoy using it for a year or two more.

I was in a different town yesterday and I saw 3 Xantias, 2 green ones and a light blue one. All very tidy. My Fred is a very scruffy silver. In my town there are another 2 silvers, a green and a dark blue.

Last week my Fred and one of the silvers were in an accidental convoy!
Fred, a silver 1998 1.9TD SX Xantia.
Gwin, a white 1994 1.1 AX.

My father owns a Citroen Xantia V6 Exclusive (Face lifted model). Only reason ours isn't driving is because it developed a leak at the power-steering piston and has a habit of vacating it's reservoir of LHM when you make a left turn. Very hard to find parts for it here in South Africa as Citroen in South Africa never sold the BX, XM or Xantia here. So it's one of 5 Xantias in the country and the only face lifted V6 Exclusive. The club this side really wants to see it too haha
