Hi, and
to the French Car Forum. While I cannot offer you any direct help with your problem, if you were to post up the VIN a Moderator can then look up what she had when she rolled out of the factory, which is a starting point. For security reasons the VIN will be obscured so only Moderators can read it.

Re: C5 2008 auto gearbox the manual selector isn't working
Sorry, it works in normal auto mode but not in manual (some people I asked today called it semi automatic)
So when pushed to the left in manual (M) it doesn't work.Back in auto mode to the right it works normal.

Right you have a late registered C5 MK II not an X7. I will remove the earlier post as although the same procedure, the diagrams are different:
You still have an AM6 box, albeit an earlier version.
The causes of malfunction can arise from the following elements:

Re: C5 2008 auto gearbox the manual selector isn't working
And just to confirm - it's not a semi-automatic - they didn't utilise these on the MK II C5. You have a fully automatic gearbox you can inform those you spoke to.pavopavo14 wrote: 28 Aug 2019, 20:11 Sorry, it works in normal auto mode but not in manual (some people I asked today called it semi automatic)

Thankyou for clearing up the version of my car.
But the manual shift postion isn't working which is to the left of drive postion which works.
Other than that thier isn't any other issues.

Re: C5 2008 auto gearbox the manual selector isn't working
I suggest you consider getting a diagnostic to see if there are any gearbox related fault codes on the system. There is a gear lever blocking actuator relay in the BSI, but I'm not sure whether this would only prevent manual selection.
I have this bit of info - but nothing else on exact location I'm afraid...
In position " M ", selection is effected by an electronic sensor located near the gear lever:
The variation in flow needed to tilt the sensor cells is obtained by a magnet located on the lever opposite the cells, causing changes in status
The information is transmitted to the ECU from the gearbox

Thanks for this information..... It's due for an cam belt change on the 3rd of September and the gent has promised he would do a diagnostics check.
So here's hoping he can get to the bottom of it.
Thanks again

When you push the gear ever to the left, does the dashboard gear indicator display change from 'D' to 'M'?

Re: C5 2008 auto gearbox the manual selector isn't working
I wonder (but DON'T know) if the gearbox lever has had the same problem that affected some fuel filler caps? These used a magnet and reed switch so that the DPF system could see when the cap was opened, and then inject a little bit of additive. If the magnet fell off (and they DID!) the DPF system could not detect the fuel cap opening/closing, and this led to problems with the additive system. If the magnet has come away it would no longer trip the sensors (probably Hall Effect Sensors), so the gearbox could not 'see' it was in manual mode.

The lights on the dash aren't working either & usually it tells you what gear it's in & this doesn't come on.

Re: C5 2008 auto gearbox the manual selector isn't working
Has the car had any other work done (e.g. fitting an after-market radio head unit)?
The loss of dashboard display suggests a problem with one of the multiplex bus systems.
A diagnostics session is really needed to localise the issues..

It's not a complete loss just the M doesn't light up and the numbers 123456..... When using in manual mode.
