The Activa is booked in for it's CT in a couple of weeks time. I noticed that both the steering boots are starting to crack up and really need replacing. When I booked the CT I asked the tester if a split boot would require a contra-visit, ie I would have to change them. I got a somewhat ambivalent reply which leads me to suspect that if the splits aren't too bad it might pass.....
However at some point soon I really should be changing them anyway. Bought one on French ebay but think it's not correct. Will someone - probably Marc - please confirm the right part numbers please. Think the one on the non steering ram side is 406642 and the other side 406630. The one I bought for the non ram side I think has too small an outer diameter - part number 406637.
Series 0ne LHD Activa Vin number VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] RP no 6888
Will probably get a mobile mechanic to fit them - think the ram side can be a bit of a pig? And my ball joint splitter is in Scotland....

Re: Activa steering rack boots
Ok, so there are 3 parts listed....
For item (3):
406630 = RAM YOKE SIDE
406642 = LEFT (DIAM 18)
406637 = No Description
Useful I know!

Re: Activa steering rack boots
Thanks Marc, what would we do without you? Ok think I know what's what now. The ram side is standard for all - 406630. The non ram side - which might be LH or RH depending on steering wheel position - is 406642 18mm dia boot for the bigger engines and presumably fatter steering arms - XU10J2TE 2 litre petrol turbo (inc Activa). XUD11BTE Turbo Diesel, and ES9J4 v6 petrol. The other - dare I say lesser? - Xantias have an 11mm dia boot 406637.
And I did buy the wrong one....
