Citroen Ax/mot failure

Post by xantiagreen »

L973 UCM - Citroen Ax

Looking to buy this car but has a host of issues on MOT failure 22nd June 19, need advice as the bottom coolant hose has failed and mot then passed and failed a yr or 2 later is this a common fault.

There are also quite a few areas that need new panels how easy is it to get front both side under bonnet panels and front wings. It has 50k and i think its a 1 owner.

I bloody miss my xantia

Looking at the failures documented as taken from the .gov https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/website does not seem too bad, yes it appears they had to stop due to coolant loss and there could be other faults. As it has only done 1,325 miles since last MOT and all the work on the last MOT would/should have been done I think you may be on a winner, for another year at least, depends on how much you pay - question to ask it how much would it be worth scrap to the current owner! (<££/£££)

Repair immediately (major defects):
  • 1, Nearside Front passenger door does not latch securely closed (6.2.3 (a))
  • 2, luid leak harmful to the environment or a risk to other road users coolant anti freeze (8.4.1 (a) (i))
  • 3, Emissions not tested excessive coolant leak at time of test (8.2.1.2 (d))
  • 4, Parking brake efficiency below requirements (1.4.2 (a) (i))

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • 4a, Rear Service brake requirements only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair (1.2.1 (c))"

So going forward.
  • item 1, adjustment would be a good place to start, possibly just all gummed up and needs a clean,
  • item 2 you know about,
  • item 3 ?
  • items 4 & 4a would probably be dealt with together, either by adjustment of new shoes.(Pads?).

4 discs & Pads @ 63,585 mi
2 (AM6) oil exchanges @ 58,876 & 72,378 mi
