Diagbox fault codes - C4 Picasso (B78)

Post by danlat1415 »

After using a ELM327 ODB2 fault code reader for a while, which showed no fault codes, but recently started with 1 fault - P0272, I decided to get a diagbox clone and see what more I could get out of it.

Well I've run the diagbox fault finder this morning and found a LOT of codes.
Bearing in mind my car has not had the fault codes read or cleared for at least 3 years.

It came up with;
Built-in system interface
B1003 00 - fault configuration

Engine ECU
P0272 - cylinder 4

Switch Module Under steering wheel
B1181 00 - lighting and signalling control fault
B1836 12 - transponder aerial fault
B1836 00 - transponder aerial fault

Controls on steering wheel
B10FE 64 - integral controls steering wheel lower left module dial fault

Right hand front wiper motor
B11B0 71
B11B1 81

Control Panel
B1003 54 - fault secure configuration faulty
B151C 81 - video configuration fault

Rain sunlight sensor
U1F03 87 - sensor communication fault with the built in systems interface
U1807 81 - park information fault
U1F1A 87 - LIN fault

Multiplexed control panel
B1530 07 - multifunction control panel audio/telematics buttons fault

Parking aid
B1224 35 - outer rear left parking assistance sensor fault
B1228 35 - outer rear right parking assistance sensor fault

Telematics unit SMEG_PLUS
F300 - calibration file downloading fault

Electric steering lock
B1740 74 - fault unlocking of the electric steering lock

Door control pad
B1386 98 - rear right electric window motor fault

Diesel additive function
B100C 1C - ECU supply fault

Will all of these be active faults or could they be left over from uncleared issues.

I've had the battery replaced recently and had issues with eh stop/start caused by the alternator belt and tensioners which is currently ongoing.
This causes the car to stall on the restart and it's like pressing restart on a PC.

I've not cleared any faults, because I've just got diagbox so I'm just getting used to it and don't want to mess anything up by not reading up first.

I've not got any warning lights at all on the dash and the car and everything runs fine (aside from alternator tensioner issues - it's back in garage on Wednesday to hopefully sort).

That won't help much - all the 'B' codes are not recognised Citroen codes I'm afraid. You really need Diagbox which is the official software used by PSA to get all the correct odes including the manufacturer's customised codes that generic readers cannot interpret.

With that, I can help determine the meanings of those faults, but not with these.

Thanks.
They are all off Diagbox.
Running v7.57

They are the codes listed in the first screen after the full global test has completed.
If I click on each one it takes me to another screen, but the codes are still the same.

Ok, so what is your VIN so I can check them again against your specific ECU as there are a lot of C4 Picasso variants. A lot of those may be SMEG-specific faults. I have to go out for an hour or so, but if you can supply the VIN I will look at them on my return for you.

Diagbox will have created a REPORT of your diagnostic session, Dan, which you can review at any time (just click the REPORTS tab) so go ahead, clear the codes, use the car for a while then re-run the diagnostics and see if any codes persist. It's very likely some, if not all those you've listed are historic and no longer relevant.

Ok, so it's a B78 SpaceTourer with SMEG as suspected. I only have info on some of those faults codes - but what I can tell you initially is that a lot of these faults relate to incorrectly configured engine fuse box and instrument panel ECUS.

Have you been experimenting?.....

Either the incorrect values have been written, or a configuration has not been written and completed. This can only happen if the ECUs parameters have been altered using Diagbox.

I'm not saying you have done this personally, but it looks like some configuration changes have tried to be changed resulting in faults as they are not compatible with the vehicle or the changes have not been written correctly.

Pending re-running of the global test, and the same faults coming up, my honest advice would be to book it into the dealer and ask them to download the default configuration files for the ECUs. You can't do this with a clone kit - only the dealer can realistically do this from the PSA servers. They will be able to reprogramme the ECU based on factory defaults and then with specific options that you have based on your VIN.

It might be useful reading my post in using Diagbox here and the warnings of doing so for reference if you haven't already done so:

https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 51&t=60600

The issue you have now is that we can't specifically identify what it is not happy with - but I have not gone into all the codes as I think it is highly likely the faults may be related, but for the main ones:

B1003 00 Engine Fuse Box Configuration Fault

Possibility 1
At least one configuration parameter has never been written or the engine fuse box traceability zone has never been written

Possibility 2
On writing one or more engine fuse box configuration parameters and if at the end of the diagnostic session the configuration parameters and the engine fuse box traceability zone have not all been written.

System Affected: Late or unwanted detection of a vehicle by the distance alert
Suspect: Configuration of the engine relay unit

B1003 54: Instrument Panel Configuration Fault.
Description of fault: Instrument panel (CIROCCO) not configured or configured incorrectly.

Disappearance of the Fault Conditions: Correct configuration of the instrument panel (CIROCCO)
Symptoms of the fault:
  • Malfunction of the display on the instrument panel
  • The distance alert cannot be activated
  • Malfunctioning of selection of the lane departure warning system function
  • Loss or absence of the lane departure warning system
  • Text of the message false or deteriorated (Panoramic visual assistance)
  • Incorrect or deteriorated panoramic visual assistance image
  • The panoramic visual assistance function cannot be activated
  • Legal message not displayed (Panoramic visual assistance)
Suspect: Configuration of the instrument panel (CIROCCO)

Obviously there are more of these similar configuration faults from your codes, so I really think you need to get it to the dealer and allow them to download the configuration parameters directly, then they will check that your options are correctly configured and hopefully it will rectify the issues.

Thanks for your reply.
I've not done anything with diagbox other than connect it once this morning to run a fault finder.
I've not touched anything else and not cleared anything.

Before today I had an ODB2 Bluetooth dongle (ELM327).

I had my car battery changed by a local garage (non-Citroen) lately so could that have caused the fault codes?

Or may be related to my alternator belt tensioner issue which is causing the car to stall on startup from stop/start as the belt isn't tight enough so it's not able to restart from the alternator start.

I'm waiting for my alternator belt and tensioner to be replaced this week after Citroen decided to only change the top tensioner, so I'm waiting until after this, then I'll clear all the fault codes after that, then I can see if any come back.

I only got Diagbox to be able to check for faults, I have no need for any modifications or changes.

Ok, understood. I'm wondering if it is down to the version of Diagbox you are using needing an update. It might be that the software is interrogating the ECUs and may be returning an error if it can't quite understand the ECU.

I've also just checked some Diagbox software update logs and it seems there have been some related updates concerning this error - which could be affecting it, so I would suggest you upgrade to version 7.63 and then see if the error persists. The correction is:

"Correction concerning the acknowledgement and sending of the traceability"

Also V7.58 corrects an error with the SMEG+ unit. So I would do the upgrade to 7.63.

If you need the updates, let me know - I have these available if needed.

Thanks.
My Diagbox came with all the updates upto v7.83 but I stopped at 7.57 because my vehicle was added to that version so I assumed it would be sufficient.

I think you may be right, because the global test said ECU not recognised in the main ECU list.
So maybe the fault codes are false readings.

I'll run the updates and retry it.

Would I be best going all the way to 7.83? If things are fixed with each update, would 7.83 be best?

No - stop at 7.63. Any later and you start to loose manual telecoding without a lot of script editing. 7.63 should more than cover the Model and most other updates.

I've just checked and the ones I have are;
7.57 to 7.58
7.58 to 7.62
7.62 to 7.66 (8.02)

Should I find 7.63 download, or is 7.62 enough?

I did a quick Google search about what you said and it seems the telecode restrictions start in 7.63, so did you mean to go to 7.62?

Ok, so the 7.63 update seems to be rolled into several others in the offline ‘patched’ versions, so Inwould update to 7.66 as it’s the versions either side that have telescoping issues. It becomes very bitty after this with some versions have downgraded capability, then others returning it, but 7.66 looks good and will cover your traceability issue.

I managed to find a download for 7.63, so I used that and re-ran the global test
It came back with less errors, but still had a few with 'B' codes.
I don't know if it keeps these from my previous check, even though I've updated.

I've not cleared anything yet.
My car is in the garage on Wednesday, so I'll retest and clear after that and see how it goes.

I've no major issues with the car I just wanted to see if there was anything behind the scenes that was failing that I could sort before it became a bigger issue.

Thanks for your help.
