Berlingo 2ltr hdi dipstick tube came off!

Post by numnuts »

Hi. I was checking the oil on my 2005 Berlingo (2 litre hdi) when I noticed the dipstick pipe was loose..then it came off in my hand. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it an easy fix? Thanks.

Never heard of it pulling the actual tube out but normally on the old HDi engines if the little rubber engine cover mounts have broken it lets the cover shake around which can make the oil cap come off & pull the dipstick out.

Ah, thanks wheeler, I reckon that's whats happened! The engine cover is loose and has been moving around. I have ordered some new fixings. Still need to sort out the broken dipstick pipe though...

Leave the cover off for the time being otherwise the oil cap may end up lying on the motorway somewhere.

Yes, it's very real probability that it'll be worked off. And then there will be a terrible oil mess to clear up in the engine bay. The bonnet insulation is incredibly difficult (near impossible) to reclaim. I speak from experience!
