ZX/306 Starter motor compatibility

Unread post by pickers »

The starter motor on my ZX 1.6i has failed and I ordered a used part by post from a breakers. The part arrived yesterday and has "306 1.6" scribbled on it.
The breaker assured me on the phone that the ZX and 306 are identical in all but bodyshell. I can't get a look at the car until tomorrow - can someone kindly assure me that he's right and that I don't need to search for another part before tomorrow? [:)]
Thanks.

It's the same XU-derived engine...there's a lot of interchangeability between PSA engine parts so it's very likely there's no problem. Check to see if the Andyspares Pug 306 and Cit ZX part nos are similar... (they should be)

Thanks. I did the part no comparison last night, which is what worried me slightly...
ZX 1.6 - N90124
306 1.6 - T90100 or T90101
I'm a bit of a novice at this, but they don't look that similar to me.

Sorry to disappoint but the 306 1.6 is a TU engine, where as the ZX 1.6 is the old XU engine.
You can fit any starter from a zx 1.6/1.9/2.0 or from a BX 16/19, Pug 405 etc infact pretty much any XU Petrol. But not one with a TU engine!

He still swears blind that he's never seen an XU series 1.6 in a ZX - that all the ones they've dismantled have been TU series - but everything else I've found out points to the fact that he's wrong.
So there was me thinking I was all clever having a part delivered and now I have to spend tomorrow trawling round breakers instead [:(!]
Thanks all for your help.
