BSM-problems 407

Unread post by NobbeA »

Hello,
so my BSM has failed on my 2005 407 with 136 hp petrol 2-litre engine. I have purchased a second hand unit so the car runs great now,
but i would rather find a brand new one, wich seems impossible since they don't make them anymore.
So my question is: can i replace it with another unit?
The original numbers are: 6500CG BSM-L02-00, 9656086180 and S118983002 J.
Thanks in advance.

These are specific parts depending on build date. They need to communicate with the BSI, so if you have a correct second hand one, then stick to it. Replacing it with another part may cause issues.

Here's the part number you listed - as you can see your part is for cars to build date 10669 (21/01/2006) and the part number your seller has listed is shown for later models from build date 11189 (28/06/2007).

You can certainly try it, but these also have electronic cards in that talk to the network - so hard to say - you may be ok, but we can't say for sure as we usually stick to the recommended parts for the vehicle and build date.

Thank you!
I think it's better to wait until the BSM that's in now breaks down until i take a chance on the other one. The car doesn't even have 60.000 miles on the clock, so i guess it will run for a few years more.
Strange, never had problems with spare-parts when i drove Volvo!

It's becoming more and more common that parts get superseded quickly during production runs (due to obsolescence, upgrades or switching supplier) and that, coupled with cars becoming generally more complex (more parts!) makes continuing parts supply a lot more difficult as time goes on.

That said: Citroen themselves are particularly crap at providing long on-going parts support these days unfortunately. They have been known to switch off parts supply for early models, even when that car platform is still in production!
The after-market is pretty good in that regard still, though.

Always match with the same part number when replacing, this will be the 96* or 98* number.

Hello, sorry for the late respond.
I took the safer way and replaced the BSM with an identical, and that worked out perfectly.
So i dont know if another prt will fit.

Cheers.

I would have severely doubted whether it would have worked. You took the correct decision.
