gearbox mounting stud removal

Post by Raul »

Hello

How do you remove this stud? I do not see a place for the socket or wrench . I got the georbox out with the stud attached to the box but haynes manual says that it needs to be removed before taking out the gearbox. It was also not very convinient to remove the gearbox with the stud on it. I tried to remove it with pliers but needless to say it did not work. Previous owner has also damaged the threads on the stud a little bit so I need to change this anyway. The car is citroen berlingo 2.0 hdi from 2003.

You might need a stud extractor but if you screw two nuts onto the stud and fasten them tightly together you might be able to unscrew it

If the two nut method does not work straight away, try heating the casing around the stud and then the two nut method. If you cannot get the nuts on due to damaged threads then I would try a decent size pair of stilsons around the stud. The more you crank it the tighter the grip and It almost always works. Finally if that fails cut the stud off flush with the casing then centre punch the remaining stub and drill out to the stud size and then retap to take the new stud. Good luck :)

I got it off with two nuts and and heating the casing around it. Without heating the threads would not hold. Does that mean that nobody actually removes that stud during clutch change?
