What is the best way to know if a Peugeot is Android Auto compatible?

Post by exadra2011 »

As I mention in viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62945 I am looking to buy a Peugeot 2008, but I am struggling to know exactly what ones support Android Auto without going to see the car in person.

Is there a year and month from where we can be sure that all Peugeot 2008 have Android auto support?

It's got nothing to do wit the model, but which Head unit is has fitted. So it depends on what audio system the specific model has fitted as they all provide various functions and features. Some will provide hands free bluetooth calling only, others Bluetooth calling and streaming - others none of these.

For 2008, this is especially important as there were limited models at that time, that changed frequently over the following few years.

If you have the vehicle registration of the one you are interested in, post it here and I'll be able to tel you what system it has.

For now I have the SP66OLH and ST66UGY on my radar.

Thanks for offering to lookup for this info.

Ignore what I was saying in my last post - I've lost the plot again and completely missed the fact that you are talking about the model 2008 and not the year 2008! That's what happens when Peugeot pay some dopey bu**er millions of Euros to come up with a cracking naming convention similar to years like that!

Anyway you are fine with what you originally wanted to know :-D

SP66OLH: (2016 Model) - SMEG DIGITAL RADIO RECEIVER This one has Mirror Link, so will work with Android with version 4.3 on. It has Bluetooth Streaming & Call handling.
ST66UGY: Ditto the above.

No problem, and I agree that the name is not an intelligent choice... search for this cars to buy in gumtree gives me lot of 2008 year Peugeots ;)

From discussions in the forum I got the impression that not all cars with mirror link would support Android Auto, so it seems that I misunderstood it.

All you need to know about the connectivity should be here:

https://www.peugeot.co.uk/peugeot-mirror-screen/

There are various sections that answer most questions :)

What you need to bear in mind is that the Mirrorlink is standard on the range (check earlier model years though) although features like the 3D connected services are available on different trim models like the Allure Premium and GT Line - but require subscription services.

Thanks for the link.

All I need is to be able to see Google maps from my Android phone in the car screen ;)

I don't want my car connected to their services... That is asking to be hacked from the internet, and believe that any connected car out there is just not safe enough from being hacked remotely. P.S: I work as a Developer in mobile and API security.

Oh, there's lots of paranoia abound here on that type of thing - rightly justified too IMO. Their servicing tracking apps was one example that basically did the same.

But back on the maps issue - only certain apps are available - and I know that Google Maps is used for the subscription 3D connected services - I didn't see that app available on the Mirror Link - so you might need to check as they only allow selected apps to function. Although you could use it on your smartphone - it may not work on Mirror Link - as they want the subscription revenues. It's part of the move they've made away from bespoke Telematics head Units to combat map piracy no doubt.

Wait... So I will need to have their connected services subscription to be able to mirror my Google maps app from my Android phone to the car screen?

That's what you need to check on - I can only see the Sygic GPS as being available - even the Mirrorlink site doesn't show Google Maps as being supported:

https://mirrorlink.com/apps

^ Just set to Peugeot and see. Another restriction is App availability by Country.

So I would call PSA customer service direct, as not all dealers are clues up - mirroring is not actually correct in the true sense as there are a lot of Apps that will not work.

I think Apple Car Play has Google Maps

I have to bring this topic up, because there is a lot of misinformation here.

MirrorLink and Android Auto are two separate things. MirrorLink is not supported on every phone and have specific apps it supports, like Sygic GPS which probably requires some payment but from Sygic, not from Peugeot.

Android Auto is provided by Google and you can run in on any newer Android Phone. Google Maps, Waze and other apps which are approved can be used with Android Auto and it's completely free, nothing should be purchased from Peugeot or Google.

Peugeot started selling cars with Android Auto and Mirror Link somewhere near the end of 2017, but of course, it depends on the unit in the car.

You need to read the posts properly, the OP has a SMEG unit and the connected services we are talking about are the Peugeot specific connected services, usually free for the first few years then require a subscription. These are payable to Peugeot.

Auto Android and Mirrorlink are separate and provide basic apps for touchscreen devices. Of course what you can use is dependent on what they permit. And yes some of those apps are subscription based to the app provider.
