Re: Open-Top motoring....
No I'm afraid not Gibbo, as much as I would like to have done. The nearest I came was my Uncle's Morris 8 round the caravan site in Shoeburyness when I was 12!! I remember finding it very hard to depress the clutch at all let alone all the way down!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Open-Top motoring....
The wife and I have owned a few Open top cars over the years..... Some good and some bad.
The Punto (PIG), the golf and the silver MX5 and BMW are example pics.
Second time ownership of the 308CC now have a 2013. Also had a 2.0 petrol silver 307cc then preplaced it with the diesel one pictured.

I have driven a Crossley 14 as a wedding car and the clutch was not dissimilar. Double declutching along with smooth take offs so as not to throw the bride about was a delicate but very deliberate act. This Crossley also towed a caravan to shows.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
This was the moment when Mick really announced his prowess at "finding stuff". All to do with an unidentified location for a dam in Spain which featured in a Citroen Car Advert. Nailed it in double quick time.
Well I have another Dam question, how to frame it so its not too easy? Keep it simplemickthemaverick wrote: ↑06 Jul 2019, 22:33Have a look at reservoir Embalse de Béznar dam. I think you'll find that's the one. !!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑06 Jul 2019, 22:16
Very kind! Here's one little taskette that remains outstanding in spite of researching dams in Spain (presa de embalse) never managed to nail the location of this one used in the citroen "Take the long way home" promotional video.

I've posted a pickled Egg poser on the wrong thread!
You have smashed the Dam question again Mick! and spotted its not in Russia
Do you know your Dr Zhivago off by heart, or your Spanish Dams

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Neither actually!! I was looking through the TV guide at lunchtime to see if any films were on for recording and I saw Dr Zhivago among the listings. Having seen it twice I didn't bother recording it but it was in the back of my mind when you posted the picture. So a quick check on IMDb confirmed my thought and gave me the name!! I'm off to get a lottery ticket now!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑21 Dec 2021, 19:17I've posted a pickled Egg poser on the wrong thread!

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Looking back over the pages of this thread the most regular appearer is the SAAB convertible in its various forms. Generally gets a shutter click from me, and also this year a couple of nice bright TR7's caught the eye at Auction.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
I see my daughters SAAB there
She can't open her Megane to the elements, waiting for window and mirror control modules from Poland - the rear windows have to open before the roof can.
I have seen a couple of people driving topless in the past few days - Audis, naturally.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
We have got two in our house, a Megane Mk3 cc (mine) and my wife recently purchased 308cc 2.0 hdi..... Must be mad! but they are not the first I had a Megane Mk2 CC before the Mk3cc and the wife has just sold a very nice red 307cc 2.0 hdi sport (2007) which she had for 9 years, loved it had rather a good sound system in it played her 90's dance music really well, lets hope she has the same fun in this 308cc.
Have to say both cars where relatively trouble free, apart from the 307 need a turbo 2 year after purchase but worth it as its pickup was even more fun!!!!!! have to say the 307 servicing is brilliant so simple, it all looks at you fuel, air, oil and even the pollen is simple to get to, unlike my Megane where clutch pedal has to be moved to one side, the only thing we where not impressed with on the 307..... glow plugs! need I say More...…..
I suppose its a bit odd really a gaggle of French cars on our drive and I work for Volkswagen
The one thing I will say considering my Megane is an 11 plate and a GTLine, her 308 is a 12 plate Allure, WHAT a difference is build quality and overall general quality with just a year separating them mine doesn't even show up the parking sensors in the NAV screen? yet they are factory fit as is the NAV, in my opinion she has the better car by far.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Daughter has a Megane C+C but no open top for her, her mirror controls and window winders are on strike and unless the windows, specifically the rear ones, will open the roof won't budge.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Got so annoyed at my MK2 CC breaking rear passenger window cables (3 regs in the end) I took it out pulled all the cables out of it bolted the window carrier in the upright position at the top plugged the motor back in and hey presto roof works but passenger glass stayed up roof just closed onto the glass was like that for 6 years, I then found a chap who would re-cable it and it worked again, 2 years later sold car.
I liked the Floride it looks so different and red/white leather real eye catcher, down side is they only do a 1.4 petrol, which road tax wise in the region of £230 it was actually cheaper to tax the 2.0 DCi Renault Sport in the CC than the 1.4 petrol, they where quite a few really good examples of the 1.4TCi which caught my eye but the chap I know from Renault said yes it is the same BHP 130 but you are really going to have to push it due to its weight you'll find the MPG is rather bad, which is most customer complaints with the 1.4TCi, they reckon the 1.6DCi is not to bad at all to drive but at the time out of my budget so we never bothered looking.
The metallic purple one is rather nice as well but I do prefer the cream one.
