Citroen C5 2006 2.0 HDI electronic problem

Post by citroenc5london »

Hi,
welcome everyone. I own (and love :roll: ) Citroen C5 HDI, 2006 model.
I just started to have one problem recently.
On last 3 rides, I am getting 'Depolution System Faulty' and 'Power Steering Faulty (or so)'. Today (3rd) ride I also got 'ESP error' and 'Oil temperature too high'
All 3 rides were to very same place, same route ~20 miles, however middle one took 150% of time due to traffic. Errors always happen after ~ 20 miles.
I don't need to mention, everything works fine, temperature gauges are ok and power steering is fine, right?
I check battery, ~ 12.8 V engine off, ~ 14 V engine on.
Worth to mention, most of the time parking sensors are down (another error), but sometimes, they are working - especially when I don't use reverse.
So what could it be? I read lot of things about fuses or cut cables, and would like to check myself if I can fix because I am afraid my local (quite good) garage will start to charge me to get to the source of problem - then I might decide to get new car, even though I am emotionally attached to my C5 (but my wallet is not...)

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

Before doing anything further with the car I would suggest you arrange for a diagnostics session. There are a LOT of ECUs in there, and it would be guesswork trying to nail down the fault. Fortunately there are Forum members who have Lexia clones (you cannot buy original test equipment from Citroen, and generic code readers struggle to understand French cars!) and who are also prepared to help out those in need. The following link is for the map of such people;

Have you tried a BSI reset, that cured a faulty fuel gauge on mine.

What is BSI reset?

I went with car to my garage, they cleaned errors. However, they come up again pretty soon (~ 20 miles). However, I made interesting observation:
For some time now, electric windows driver side buttons were not working properly. Only one for driver window worked, others were opening windows, but closing was impossible. After error codes were cleared, driver buttons started to work again. Now, when error started to happen, buttons stoped to working. Maybe this could give some clues?

The BSi reset is, a complete controlled shutdown of all of the ECUs in the car (they don't ever normally shut down, but go into a sort of 'sleep' mode when you turn the ignition off and leave the car for a while. However, if there is a 'glitch' in the system this will remain there, causing some issues every time the car starts up. The BSi reset will clear these 'glitches' (but any real problems will remain, as there is an actual cause other than a glitch). The following link explains how to do a BSi reset
