Xantia Speedo woes

Post by vmaxvmax »

Hi,

I have I think two unrelated issues with my speedometer...

Meantime I am relying on my iPhone with GPS for speed indication!

Firstly the issue where it 'sticks' at a certain speed I think around 70kph, sometimes it 'under reads' the speed by a few kph. The odometer continues to work. I know this is likely a dry solder joint problem in the speedo dash and have not yet got around to re-soldering the joints. A 'thump' on the dashboard helps to get it back in order until the next time...

Secondly, the speed has just stopped working along with the odometer. I'm not yet sure if I have an electrical speedo or cable version though I suspect electrical. From what I can glean from the web and this forum it seems possible a simple check of the pulse unit connector might sort it.

Before I dive under the car, does anyone have any advise as to possible problems and troubleshooting?

My car - Xantia,
vin: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
engine code: DHX (XUD9TF/BTF) / D ः (XUD9SE / O),
ORGA/RP Number: 0 6972 CJ = 11 December 1985 was date of assembly in Factory
Homologation
Version 18A, BE: 93/A095, ES: B-2076
Model type: x18a, TDX

Any light on this would be most welcome!
Thank you in advance...

If you were to post up the VIN (which will be automatically obscured so that only Moderators can read it) a Moderator can look up exactly what she had when she rolled out of the factory.
