.....Yes Danish Bacon used to advertise itself with its own name dye stamped on its product, eggs used to have a little lion logo on them, and we were encouraged to "go to work on an egg" . There was even radio active ready brek but whats going on in 2019...........
The Telegraph Newspaper is advertising on my plastic milk bottle!

Re: Advertising makes the world go round
I think a better title might be Advertising irritates almost everyone for many different reasons.
My incredulity is fed by the continual adverts from the NHS at the moment encouraging you to contact your GP so that you can listen to ''your call is important to us etc ' for 20-40 minutes if you have the symptoms they describe.
Or the FAST campaign for stroke patients. Every second counts so dial 999 straight away - presumably to start your 30 minute average wait time for an ambulance asap. Better to get the victim to hospital asap!!
Better to stop the advertising and use the money to get more staff and resources in place surely?

Good points Mick! Adverts that irritate could generate a few easy posts!

The creme de la creme of adverts threads so far on the FCF Off-topic Lounge is this one
Now I wonder if a slight different interpretation to "which non-car adverts stick in print and in film? Would that give more opportunity for contributors to put fingers to keyboards to add to this thread today

Unfortunately the FCF Archives February Ferret Random hand has selected this thread "Advertising makes the World Go round" designed for the non-car advert...like the odd one on the milkbottle. The thread never got out of first gear.

NeilThe maybe not so happy pan! for those who watched the Dark Waters film a couple of nights ago.

Re: Advertising makes the world go round
A couple of weeks ago I was able to 'trail-test' a newly introduced top of the range running shoe...
Here I am wearing them and caught by the event photographer...
They are absolutely magical - and at £175 a pair so they should be...
I wrote about them in glowing terms on my Facebook page and since then I've been deluged by adverts for them...
Pointless really as I have a pair on order from my local running shop and waiting eagerly for them to be ready...
This is just one instance of targeted advertising these days... Just be careful what you search for in Google these days or you may be buried in advertising for it... Could be just a little unsettling if the item you searched for was a bit - how can I say - 'specialist'

Fortunately I never, or very rarely, see any advertising. I arrange my life to miss it. No TV is a good start.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑16 Feb 2023, 09:28 I think a better title might be Advertising irritates almost everyone for many different reasons.
That said I am largely immune to it and would never buy anything I might see advertised, having worked in the advertising industry I expect anything I see or read to be bullshit.
Never see any adverts on Google, mail, searches or drive.
About the only advertising I encounter is Nord VPN in Tom Scott's, and Ashley Neal's clips, and somethingorother in the Artisan Electrics clips. Easy to skip over them.

Re: Advertising makes the world go round
I don't use Bookface Instagram or anything resembling it.
I have an aversion to the word "Apps" and avoid anything so named like the plague. Dislike social media intensely.
I'm a bit of a hermit and don't use the phone either, text only. Which is proving to be a problem as the UK Biobank want me to go in for an MRI scan and other stuff but can only book a time by phone.

No prizes for guessing, but you get points - and what do points mean ?
Where do these advertising slogans and catchphrases come from ?
The mild cigar
Everything we do is driven by you
Tell 'em about the honey, mummy
Watch out there's a Humphrey about
The car in front is........
Splash it all over
Smooth on the outside, crunchy on the inside
They're tasty, tasty, very very tasty
The growing up spread you'll never grow out of
Bread with nowt taken out
Helps you work, rest and play
Tense, nervous headache ?

Only the first and I can't remember the name of them, and the second to the last.
From the days when I did see adverts.

Do you recognise the two voices doing the analysis in the first clip?
There are a series of later tango adverts which I had never really seen before but had me chuckling
