Upgrading a Xantia LX with (V)SX kit

Unread post by aerodynamica »

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows if it's practical to fit rear electric windows and mirrors to a low spec LX car.

Some models I've read about in the past have the wiring harnesses already present for E.g electric seats even where they're not fitted. I think the XM was like that.

I wonder if it would be practical to replace the rear window lifters with elecric and the manual mirrors with the electric and heated type if the parts were available.

It might not be worth the hassle if the harnesses are nit already there. I might be replacing my VSX with a better condition LX car..

No, the harnesses are different depending on options, such as indexable mirror or not and build date. Also the harnesses are different depending on whether there is standard locking, simple central locking or central deadlocking.

I would say the mirrors would be easy enough to swap if the loom is in place, but then you would need the switch for the motors and from memory they were different on mk1 and mk2. My MK2 is poverty spec but does have electric adjustment for passenger side mirror and is located on the dash, just to the right of steering wheel, but memory seems to say there was a round button on the drivers door panel that operated both electric mirrors on both MK1 and 2 but could be wrong

I added : Both windows One Touch, Cruse Control...admittedly to a 97 Activa but Jim & I had to run a few wires.

Are the mirrors controlled by the main ECU ?

The harnesses are different Colin, plus you will need the correct front harness for the driver control of the windows, I’m not sure this his a pick ‘n’ mix option. You really need to have the correct harness for the options.

Ah I see.

Yes the mk1 uses a circular 4 way rocker on the drivers door for the mirrors, the heated mirrors come on with the heated rear window, rear electric windows have a switch on each door and one on the centre console.

I must be thinking of my old BX that seemed to have countless unused miltiplugs behind blanks in the center console..

I'm about to take on a later mk1 Xantia LX. It's to complement and perhaps replace the early mk1 Xantia VSX I have presently. I was half considering dismantling the VSX and upgrading the LX with some of the vsx goodies but it will be too much unnecessary work. It'll be nice to have a Xantia that isn't scruffy and dented like Auld Katy but I'd miss the rear electrics, heated mirrors etc. Outer temp gauge too. The LX does have air con though being a '97-98 model
