Pug 306 exhaust.

Unread post by JohnD »

Daughter's Pug 306 has a split in the exhaust pipe just after the catalytic converter. Looking at the supplier's website many XUD engines of the same year don't seem to have one fitted. Instead just a straight tube. Why do some have them, and some not? And more to the point can you replace with a straight through pipe instead of the pricey cat - and still stay legal

What's the VIN for this one John (or the reg if you don't have it to hand)?

But to answer the other questions - no you won't be legal, risk voiding the insurance and a fine. The MOT station can also refuse to test it and must reject the car if the suspect it has been removed or tampered with.

The emissions are also set specifically for each engine with and without a Cat. They will know if it is supposed to be fitted from the VIN and if it's not there - it will be refused a test or failed most likely. If you want the part number to aid in a search pop the VIN up as said.

The original OEM part is no longer available from Peugeot, but the cheaper version is - Part no: 1609439180, price £147.77 inc. VAT direct from Peugeot.

So not a bad price for the Cat!
