Noise from engine (engine mount?)

Post by ZEGA »

Ok i have this problem (between others [:D] )...
I have 2.1TD and from outside engine works very smooth, but inside there is a lots of noise from the engine in the range from 1200-1800RPM rough, i suspect that engine mount is dead...The problem is which one (there are 3 engine mounts?), and where to get engine mounts for citroen XM (i have read that one from Peugeot 605 and 405 fits if there is same engine in the car)...
Is that a true?
Where could i buy engine mounts for some reasonable money?
Is anyone have similar problem in that range of rpm excessive noise other RPM range is little louder then it should be (but i can live with it), so which mount (out of 3) did you change, what was the result?

Eeeh tipical engine vibration, vibration that causes dash to rattle more then it should, even when i push a dashboard to prevent this, car is still too noisy (dash noise is induced from this), you know everyone has them, but i think that XM according to the people is more confortable and quieter car, so i suspect that is the a problem...
So engine sound from diesel engine in cabin but louder at least 3 times then in any other car i know...
I know it is a old car but that is not a reason to be THAT loud...
My cousin has old opel cadett (vauxall in UK)and it was a little worse then XM when he changed engine mount (upper one) car is now so quiet, like a new car unbelivable...
After that i am considering changing engine mount im my XM just i don't know where to buy them and which one of 3 is the right one...
My cousin's car had realy visible defect (broken old rubber) so he has no problem deciding but i see nothing on my mount, maybe rubber is old and hard, maybe i would see it when remove mount i don't know...
Today i replaced Flow dividing valve and servo problem is gone :) im happy that at least this problem is solved...

The 2.1TD lump has a lower engine mount - approx level with the exhaust down pipe ?
This is reputed to cause engine vibrations on all PSA XU type engines.
The problem is in fact the opposite : the rubber gets SOFT - allowing the engine too much excursions.
I think best solution is to replace all 3 mounts - then I'm pretty sure you get a feeling of a "new car" [:)]
Give www.gsfcarparts.com a call - they may stock - or not - but definately you get some advice.
Have precise year/model on car & exact engine type/designation ready - for accurate information.
Another suggestion would be a visit to a diesel specialists garage (NOT Citroen !) - for a tune up - like a Bosch diesel specialist.
This would most likely not be that expensive you think - and then you're sure it's not an adjustment problem on the injector pump.

Yea that bottom one is really soft i tryed it and it was like chewing gum an all greasy...
I sopose engine is ok but i will go to tohe BOSCH man to check all pump, injectors (and replace them if needed) and compression...
And will ask about all three of them (mounts)...
Hm is there any drawing/schematic where to find screws for removing dash (know-how) because it is really rattle because of this i could fix that too...
Thanks for the info!
