ecu wont add eolys to fuel!

Post by dds »

Hi all,

I needed to replace the additive pouch on my 2.2 hdi 4007 .
Managed to reset the counter and to ,,bleed off" the pipes using diagbox .
After starting the engine there was a short interval when I heard the eolys pump working.
The level was set to 3273 ml. available.
Since then i used the remaining fuel an went for the gas station to fill up ~ 50l. of fuel hoping to hear a short run of the additive pump ...but no!
Connect to diagbox and the quantity was still the same 3273ml.
Ok...maybe during first bleed of system puts some more of the nasty cerine so i used all fuel again .The car do successful regeneration and all seems fine.
Fill half tank but still no reduce of quantity available.
The magnets of the fuel cap are present.
I have done a test of the pump and it is working.
I am afraid to run the car knowing that the system is not threating the fuel.
No warnings recorded so far.
Maybe something done wrong with the diagbox???
Thanks :)

You have to realise that the additive quantity in the tank is not physically measured.

The quantity is only estimated, so the values may change slightly. The engine ECU estimates levels only. I would stop worrying about it as only a small amount is injected.

If there was a problem with the system, you would soon get a message about blockage of the filter or a management light coming on. That would provide a fault code that would point to the issue.

Yes yes - in fact, but theoretically at system level on each fill up the ecu should reduce the total quantity left.
I am confused that the value is not changing.

Look, I’m still on my original additive at about 79k miles. They only fill these with 3 litres (tank, not pouch) on my vehicle at the factory, although the capacity is 5L. So the amounts injected are extremely small. Wait for a few months and then go and check again.

For 85000km system stated that it needed 1l. of the liquid.
Strange considering that is large car that needs no less than 8-10 litres per 100km.
I've replaced it because develoeped a leak.

If you post up your VIN I can see what the system says about it.

Ok, so there is an actuator test that you can perform with Diagbox (which I assume you have from your first post). This is an audible test to ensure that the additive pump is controlled.
CheckNoise and sensation of vibration when the additive pump is operatingNo noise or sensation of vibration when the additive pump is operating
FindingThe additive pump is controlledThe additive pump is faulty or the power supply is cut
ActionContinue the checkingRepair the additive pump or restore the power supply
Continue the checking

Although this is the correct procedure for your vehicle it would mean emptying the pouch into a measuring container - so is just a guide so you can see the amounts over KMs / Miles the engine has done. These are the amounts of additive that should be evident in the measuring container at the relevant KMs / Miles:
Distance travelled by the vehicle ( kilometres )Distance travelled by the vehicle ( miles)Quantity of additive taken from the additive tank ( litres) -
003,6
30 00018 7502,8
60 00037 5002
90 00056 2501,2
120 00075 0000,4

Thanks for the guide - appriciate it :)
When the bag was removed we measured the amount lelft on precise scale ~ 1.2kg including the nylon.
It is not correct measure kg/litres of cerine but is a point to start.
On diagbox was stored around 2.7l. left.
How many of the liquid is gone on the ground...have no idea.

Ok, so the Cerine is the chemical contained in the additive that cannot be burned off , so remains in the particle filter (which is why the filter at some point has to be replaced). The Additive volume guide above should at least give you some idea of what to expect.

So if I have my head screwed on correctly, that's about 2.4 ml per 1000 KMs roughly.

Yes that is the Cerine element content by weight that ends up in the DPF, not the fluid itself. Cerine deposits within the additive can’t be burned off, so gradually clog the filter. Cleaning the filter with water or a special chemical cleaner can prolong the DPF life.

This is the q/ty that should be used 2.4ml per 1000km - something like 80 litres.
This is ~ 2 tanks of diesel.
I was expecting after each fill up to see this number decreasing(on picture above).
Untill replacement everything seems correct .
