C5 cold starting problems

Post by Ardtullaich »

Hi having issues with my 2008 c5 mk3 rd 2ltr hdi in the winter she was ap ig to start first time in the day . Some times I even had to a tiny squirt of easy start . And when I used easy start it would start first time . Now the summer is here it starts first time every morning.
Changed the thermostat and temp sensor no difference. Battery is good and high amps.
Does the outside temperature sensor have any thing to do with the start conditions? Can any one else help with other ideas.
When I say a tiny amount of easy start I mean the lightest and quickest press on the can and even at -10°c she fires straight up. Without it it would take up to a minute of turning over.

I had this problem with my first C5. Starting in warm weather was no problem but when it got colder she was a b***** to start. I remember being in Spain during the winter with it. Down on the southern coast starting was no problem but as I drove north, it became harder and harder to start. Since I was towing a caravan, I arranged my journey so that I didn't stop long enough for the engine to get really cold. After I was home I put the car into a Citroen dealer. It needed a new starter motor. The fitted one was working but not hard enough to raise sufficient pressure in the fuel rail.

Hi the starter motor makes sense after all it's only a small 1400watt starter. Will look into getting a higher output starter motor.

Well i fitted an uprated 1800w starter today as i was starting to flatten the battery this week as the days were getting colder. Didn't take long to fit . Still no joy wouldnt start . It was only 8 °C and it still needed the a droplet of easystart and away she went ,and i mean a droplet thats all it needs i dont even start it straight away wait 30 seconds before starting on the easystart. and then she will stop start all day until the next day.

Have you tried giving the hand primer a few squeezes before the first start of the day. Maybe fuel is leaking back to the tank
