Weird 207 problem
My 207, 1.4 HDi is hard to start cold, a member suggested I try a jump lead between the battery negative and the engine. It made no difference so I took off the earth strap checked it for damage and and cleaned up the ends, it wasn't too dirty. I put it together followed the procedure for connecting the battery and started the car. Now I have different problem. The low fuel light stays on if the handbrake is on and the door open light stays on unless you have the drivers seat belt is plugged in. All ideas suggestions welcome. (The car was still hard to start cold, by hard I mean 4 or 5 seconds cranking as opposed to instant for the rest of the day)

Smacks of a weak battery to me - if its' over 5 years old - maybe time to replace it. Weakened batteries will play havoc with car electrics.

Ok, but be wary that although a battery may show as charging and holding a current for a while - its capacity will diminish - and over time and it will not be able to fulfill all the demands placed on it. Let us know how it goes.

I connected the little battery meter I got in Lidl a few weeks ago It shows battery fully charged light and charging ok light, problem is it shows charging ok without the car running. I will have to get it tested properly.

Yes, that's the issue - what is says in the instant against how long it can hold a charge for - start the car a few times and it takes all the juice - so not a good indication.

Are there any other earth connections apart from the gearbox one? Now when I indicate left the green lights on light blinks in sympathy. A local mechanic checked the battery he said its ok

Re: Weird 207 problem
Forgive my ignorance but does the 207 have a COMM2000 or equivalent unit that could be causing the instrument issues? Or failing that, since it happened after disconnection of the battery it's like a confused BSI

Yes it does. I disconnected the battery to check the gearbox earth I followed Marc's guide to reset the BSI.
