406 Hdi 2004 indicators

Unread post by Peter.N. »

My recently acquired 406 estate has the indicators flashing at about twice normal speed, as if a bulb has gone, but it hasn't. Neither has it been fitted with LED's as has been suggested. All the indicators work but just flash to fast.

Any suggestions? Thanks

If the bulbs are definitely not LED try adding extra resistance in parallel. Might be easier than delving in to the BSI or whatever. Maybe get the extra loading by wiring in another bulb in parallel?

It has to be circuit related - a short, bad earth or failed bulb if not LEDs. The same thing when one of the indicator bulbs is blown.

Are they the correct wattage, if lower they will flash faster.

They all look the correct brightness and look like bulbs, the front ones are orange, they go on and off slowly not instantly like LED's. Can the speed be adjusted with a Lexia? If so I will have to try and get one of mine working. I think they are all standard 21w bulbs.

It was just a suggestion Peter, they may be less than 21W, just worth checking what's written before delving further. It happens on bikes with mini indicators with probably 5W bulbs. Not sure but I doubt that it can be altered with Lexia.
Is this the one you recently bought? I need to replace the BX soon.......

No Peter you cannot change the speed using PP2000.

This thread must be cursed! Had to get our cat to the emergency vet tonight - he’s had some trauma injury in the fields. Drove down to the vets and on the way back had the LR Fog light Faulty, indicator faulty, rear brake light faulty messages. Indicators rapidly flashing, but as soon as I got out to check the rear lights the indicators went back to normal and no errors.

I think we have been getting one message popping up on and off about one of the lights not working, but it’s so quick I can’t tell which one. I have replaced the rear brake bulb last week, it hasn't made any difference, so I suspect it is an earth somewhere or a short.

I will have to check the other side of the rear light cluster, and possibly the wiring loom.

Thanks for all your comments, I'm pretty sure they are the right bulbs because the light output is similar to the other 406 I have, I can see the bulbs in the front and they look exactly right but I will check them. As both sides are the same I had ruled out a different current scenario.

I'm beginning to see why this car was cheap although it drives like a dream. I wondered if it could be anything to do with the towing light connections - but it doesn't have a tow bar.

Sounds like you have an intermittent high resistance connection on yours Marc, I wish you luck with that!
