207 aerial base removal

Post by doctle »

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to change the aerial base on a 207. The radio reception is terrible! I'd like to know if it has a normal co-ax cable going from it to the radio so I can fit a cheap motor factor one if possible. I have an aftermarket radio thanks

Ok, so on your 207 the base doesn't contain the amplification unit as far as I can see - the aerial unit is stored behind the rear passenger quarter panel (3) as shown in the first Diagram. The unit is number 5 in the second diagram. If you really want to remove the aerial you may have to partially remove part of the headlining to get access.

But I would certainly check with another aerial connected to the back of the radio first to make sure it isn't your radio before going to all that effort.

Thanks Marc that seems complicated, I will try a different aerial and if that works I'll put a separate aerial at the front. Are screen mounted ones any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Auto-Ste ... 1438.l2649

I've never used one of these as I have a telematic system that uses GSM and GPS as well as the 2 FM and AM tuners. That windscreen aerial won't be amplified and I've seen inside some of these cheap things - they rarely have any amplifying electronics inside so are just a waste on money.

Maybe a car audio specialist or a trip to Halfrauds might be in order - as they may be able to test the radio and / or aerial.
