citroen c15 d cooling system

Post by palmtree »

hi all
i have a 1990 c15 diesel
it has had a later rad fitted but with bodged up pipework and today the hose from top of rad split
i was wondering which way to go ,
look for an original age related rad with the rad caap on it
or stick to the later rad with an expansion bottle and cap
fo rthe later system i need some piework

thing is i need the complete pipework for early original rad and the rad

if anyone has or can point me in the right direction i would be grateful
happy to come collect if someone has the bits , thanks for looking

Best to pop your VIN up here so I can see what exactly was fitted. There are still some radiators available from Citroen at least on some C15 models.

Mister Auto should be able to supply.
A separate expansion tank a better arrangement than relying just on the original radiator side-tank.
If you do get one with the built-in tank, no reason not also to plumb in a header tank.

not sure if the pic is showing ,
i have replaced the blue hose with proper pipe , i suspect something has been canabilised somewhere but this is what i have to work with atm ,
i know the fans work , ( had an auto electician check and change relays yesterday)
i have run the engine up for 30 mins and it didnt boil - nor did the fans come in
so is it ready for the road ?
have a look at the pipework ,,, i know its not correct , but it seems to work
what do you think ?

The black hose connecting radiator top hose (thermostat output) to the expansion tank will be sufficient on its own to allow coolant to expand into, and return from, the tank.

The blue hose (from the top of the thermostat housing) will work as a possible escape route for trapped air, but also risks air being sucked back from the expansion tank as the engine cools. If the system has been properly bled of air, there should be no need for this pipe, and I would suggest removing it, and simply using the spigot on the top of the 'stat housing as a bleed point (fit a small tap or bleed screw there).

Otherwise, looks ok, assuming you have a blanking cap on the radiator, and the pressure cap on the expansion tank.
