ZX 1.4 - Very sloppy gearchange

Post by beko1987 »

I have many small issues with my 24h old ZX, so I'll start with the first question!

Across the gates, the gear stick is awful, very very floppy. It goes very AWOL from 4th, across and up to 5th, and bounces around if I apply or lift off the throttle in gear. Selects fine, doesnt crunch or pop out, but having had a 1.4 with a very slick (for a ZX) gearchange, something isnt right!

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I've found 2 possible culprits from an ebay search

A (which looks likely) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-Peug ... SwrklVMNjW

B (which I'm not sure about because I have no idea of the gear linkage setup) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-306- ... Sw5wJcEl5k

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sam

If you post up the VIN we can get a pic of the gearchange. FWIW I had one with a sloppy change, and found that there was a lot of lost motion in the bolt at the bottom of the stick, which was badly rusted up and worn. You will need to get under it whilst someone waggles the stick to see where the play is.
