Gone and done it

Post by renagade »

Well Guy's
Been and booked my c5 into Citroen Doncaster for a new clutch and flywheel . I have checked out all other citroen cars in my budget of 4K and decided I could not get better than what I have. =D> =D> =D>

Hi Guy's
Help me understand the egs6 gearbox please.
c5 x7 86k 1.6 e-hdi
When traffic lights turn green the car takes off like a bat out of hell ( no clutch slip in 1,2,and3rd )
when in 5th or 6th gear and you put your foot down to pass the engine revs go up a small amount and then the car catch's up. No smell of slipping clutch and all other decisions by the gearbox are smooth and normal. No death rattle from the DMF .

How can I test the clutch for wear on a egs6 gearbox????

May I say that Citroen have reset the clutch and gear selector and it made no difference.

I have no experience of the egs gearbox, but the symptoms you describe are exactly that of some of the 'auto adjusting clutches' that Citroen fit  My car has such a clutch - sometimes it'll slip if you accelerate from about 1800rpm in 4th / 5th / 6th, then after a while it no longer slips. It's been doing this on and off for years ! Once the clutch 'auto adjusts' it stops slipping for another few thousand miles :) I've found that if I'm a little 'brutal' with the clutch I can hasten its adjustment :-D

Interesting - mine's been slipping a little for the past three years. I was going to have it done after Christmas but then the cheapskate in me took charge and it is still soldiering on.

It’s difficult to diagnose remotely but the same can happen when the DMF is on the way out.

Mine started slipping when accelerating in 5th and 6th gears. As you have no clutch pedal you can’t pick up the vibration that gets worse on a manual when the DMF is bad.

The sensible thing to do is get it replaced when you get the clutch done as it will almost 100% not last the life of a new clutch and you will have to fork out the same on all those labour costs twice.
