407 Coupe Parking Sensors

I’ve had a parking sensor fault on my 407 Coupe for a while now and Diagbox told me it was the front inner left sensor that was fault and had a short circuit to positive.

I bought a sensor off eBay, removed the front bumper, replaced the faulty sensor and thankfully before refitting the bumper plugged it all back in to check.

Diagbox is now showing me faults on Exterior front right, interior front right and exterior front left.

Plugging the old sensor back in shows only the original fault.

Are after market parking sensors a known pain in the arse? It’s the first time I’ve had a problem with them.

I would also check you haven’t had a spillage anywhere near the parking ECU either. A 5lt of screenwash emptied from a loose cap and seeped through the boot and onto my ECU. Had all sorts of sensor errors until we discovered what happened. Took 2 weeks of cleaning and drying to sort it out.

Ha e replaced these on the C5, typically had several go in quick succession but only used OEM ones David.

I’ve ordered a genuine sensor off eBay for 25 quid as I got a fright looking on Service Box as they’re £98.

Will see if I can find a second hand ECU too as I need it back together and out of the workshop by the weekend.

My parking sensors are not working at all after the cars lay up. After seeing this I will have to get the lexia onto it and check it out. Im using the car so rarely its not that much of a bother, but I need to park within 6 inches of the wall, or another car if it is not at the back.

Well, it turns out the aftermarket parking sensor that I bought was faulty.

I ordered a genuine one off eBay for £25 including delivery which I was quite pleased about as they're £98 each from Peugeot. I fitted it to the position that Diagbox told me was faulty, plugged the loom into the car and started the car, selected reverse and the parking sensors are now working without fault.

The old sensors are black in colour and match the bottom of the bumper, unfortunately the new ones are grey in colour and will stand out like a sore thumb.

Good, pleased that’s sorted, getting an OEM part is often the best thing to do, as these copies are just inferior, like so many other parts we see time and time again.

I usually do to be fair but as I was intending to sell the car I wasn't going to spend £100 on a sensor and unfortunately there were no genuine ones on eBay when I bought it.

Lesson learned...

Ive not looked at nine yet, so if I need sensors i will learn from you David and get a genuine one!
